Senior Accountant Job Description

A Senior Accountant is a highly skilled and experienced professional responsible for overseeing and managing the daily financial operations of a company. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports, as well as for providing strategic financial insights to management. The Senior Accountant often mentors junior staff and serves as a key liaison between the accounting department and other business units.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management:

• Manage the full cycle of accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end close processes, and the preparation of financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).
• Conduct in-depth financial analysis and reporting to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost optimization and revenue enhancement.

Bookkeeping & Record Keeping:

• Oversee and perform complex bookkeeping tasks, ensuring the accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Review and verify journal entries and other financial documents to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the financial records.
• Develop and implement accounting policies and business procedures to strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency.

Bank Reconciliation:

• Perform comprehensive and timely bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve all discrepancies, reconciling company records with bank statements to ensure the accuracy of cash balances.
• Identify and correct any unrecorded transactions, errors, or fraudulent activities.

Taxation & Compliance:

• Prepare and file various state, and local tax returns (e.g., GST,TDS, Income tax, property tax).
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities.
• Assist with and support both internal and external audits , providing necessary documentation and information to auditors.

nQualifications & Skills

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
• A minimum of 8-15 years of progressive experience in an accounting role.

• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Accounting Software: Hands-on experience with industry-standard accounting software packages such as QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Advanced Spreadsheet Skills: Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and other advanced functions for data analysis and reporting.
• Thorough Knowledge of Accounting Principles: Deep understanding of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and provide insightful reports.

Soft Skills:

• Attention to Detail & Accuracy: Meticulous approach to financial data to ensure error-free reporting.
• Problem-Solving: Aptitude for identifying and resolving financial issues and inefficiencies.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to mentor and guide junior accounting staff.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
