Job Purpose/ Summary

To ensure the efficient and reliable operation of all mechanical equipment and systems within the Steel Melting Shop (SMS. by leading maintenance activities, minimizing equipment downtime, and optimizing asset performance. The Senior Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and improving preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, ensuring safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with quality and operational standards. The role supports continuous improvement initiatives, enhances equipment reliability, and contributes to achieving production targets and plant availability.

Job Title

Support - Mechanical Maintenance - Engineering - Jhagadia - SteelPlan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for mechanical systems and equipment (e.g., converters, ladle furnaces, cranes, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, etc... Coordinate shutdown and breakdown maintenance activities with production and other departments. Monitor performance and condition of mechanical equipment using predictive tools (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, etc... Diagnose faults and failures in equipment and lead root cause analysis (RCA.. Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce equipment downtime and prevent recurrence. Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams during critical repairs. Ensure availability of critical spares and consumables. Coordinate with stores, procurement, and vendors to manage inventory levels efficiently. Maintain maintenance records, equipment history, and breakdown reports. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental norms, and quality standards (e.g., ISO, TPM, OHSAS.. Prepare reports for MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance KPIs. Lead and supervise a team of junior engineers, supervisors, and technicians. Conduct skill development and training programs for the maintenance team. Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. Participate in capex projects, equipment upgrades, and automation initiatives. Implement reliability improvement and cost-saving projects (e.g., energy saving, equipment modifications..

Principal Accountabilities

Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for mechanical equipment in the Steel Melting Shop (SMS.. Use diagnostic tools and techniques (vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic testing. to identify potential equipment failures. Lead mechanical troubleshooting during equipment failures to minimize downtime. Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA. for recurring issues. Monitor and analyze equipment performance metrics (e.g., MTTR, MTBF.. Recommend and implement modifications/upgrades to improve equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs. Identify and ensure availability of critical spare parts. Coordinate with the procurement and stores team to optimize inventory levels and reduce lead time. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and failure analysis. Prepare daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports and submit them to the maintenance head. Enforce adherence to safety standards and safe working practices during all maintenance activities. Ensure compliance with internal quality systems (ISO/TPM/OHSAS. and external audits. Supervise and guide a team of technicians and junior engineers. Provide technical training and support to improve team skills and efficiency. Plan and execute mechanical maintenance activities during scheduled plant shutdowns. Coordinate with operations and other departments to ensure timely execution of shutdown tasks. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives like 5S, TPM, Lean Maintenance. Identify opportunities for cost reduction through innovative solutions and process improvements. Liaise with production, electrical, instrumentation, and project teams for effective maintenance execution. Coordinate with OEMs, vendors, and contractors for specialized repairs and service support
