We are hiring a Senior Site Civil Engineer (10+ years experience) to independently handle and lead the civil execution of a B+G+12 residential tower (and associated works).
Role SummaryThe Senior Site Civil Engineer will take full responsibility for on-site civil execution – from foundations and basement to RCC structure, masonry, plaster, waterproofing, finishing, and external development.
The candidate must have:
10+ years experience in high-rise projects, and
Excellent understanding of all types of drawings – architectural, structural, MEP, services, shop drawings, and GFC revisions – and the ability to coordinate and execute strictly as per these drawings.
Key Responsibilities1. Site Execution – Civil WorksIndependently plan, supervise and execute all civil works as per GFC drawings, specifications and method statements, including:
Excavation, PCC, footing and foundation
Raft/footings, retaining walls & basement RCC
Columns, beams, slabs for B+G+12 RCC frame
Lift core, staircase, head room, overhead tank, machine rooms
Block/brick masonry, shafts, parapets, balcony walls
Internal/external plaster, putty and base finishing
Waterproofing in basement, toilets, balconies, terraces, tanks, podiums
External façade works, balcony railings, chajjas, projections
Ensure rebar cutting, bending & placing as per bar bending schedules (BBS) and structural drawings.
Check formwork/shuttering quality – line, level, plumb, cover block placement, joints, supports, and safety.
Lead concreting operations – pump planning, cube casting, slump checks, compaction, curing, and surface finish.
Coordinate with MEP teams for openings, sleeves, ducts, trenches and shafts so that no rework is required later.
2. Drawings Understanding & CoordinationStudy and understand all types of drawings in detail, including:
Architectural plans, elevations, sections, details
Structural framing plans, rebar details, sections, BBS
MEP layouts (electrical, plumbing, fire-fighting, HVAC where applicable)
Shop drawings, sleeve layouts, reflected ceiling plans
Landscape, boundary wall, external development drawings
Cross-check for clashes and discrepancies between architectural, structural and MEP drawings and raise RFIs (Requests for Information) in time.
Ensure execution is done only as per latest revision drawings, and maintain drawing registers at site.
Explain drawings clearly to supervisors, foremen and contractors for proper execution.
3. Quality Control & SafetyEnsure all work is in line with IS codes, approved specifications and drawings.
Implement strict quality checks for:
Materials: cement, steel, blocks/bricks, sand, aggregates, admixtures, waterproofing materials, etc.
Concrete: slump tests, cube tests, compaction, curing
RCC works: cover, reinforcement spacing, lap lengths, development lengths, anchorage
Masonry: mortar proportion, line and level, joint thickness, curing
Plaster: thickness, surface finish, crack control, joints treatment
Waterproofing: application method, layers, ponding tests where applicable
Maintain checklists and inspection reports for all major activities.
Enforce safety practices on site – PPE, barricading, scaffolding, safety nets, signage, and safe work methods.
4. Planning, Supervision & Team LeadershipPrepare micro-level daily and weekly work plans aligned with the project schedule.
Supervise and guide:
Site supervisors, foremen, masons, carpenters, bar-benders, helpers
Sub-contractors and labour contractors
Monitor labour productivity and ensure optimum utilisation of manpower and resources.
Identify possible delays, bottlenecks, design issues or material shortages and proactively suggest solutions.
Mentor junior engineers / trainees (if deployed) and ensure they follow systems and documentation.
5. Material Management & Billing SupportRaise material requisitions in advance for civil items and follow up for timely delivery.
Check material quality at the time of receipt and report any deviations.
Maintain material consumption records and help control wastage.
Assist in taking measurements and preparing Measurement Books (MB) for contractor billing.
Support the project team in checking RA bills and certifying quantities as per site execution.
6. Documentation & ReportingMaintain accurate and updated:
Daily Progress Reports (DPR)
Concrete pour registers, cube test registers
Labour deployment sheets
Checklists, inspection reports and site registers
Daily/weekly photo records of key activities
Prepare weekly progress reports and highlight critical issues to senior management.
7. Finishing & Handover (Later Phase)Supervise finishing works:
Flooring and tiling, stone work
False ceiling & painting
Door-window frames & shutters, railings, MS/SS works
Toilets & kitchen finishes, counters, CP and sanitary fittings
Prepare and close snag lists for flats and common areas till final acceptance.
Coordinate with MEP teams for final testing, commissioning and handover readiness.
Eligibility & QualificationsEducationB.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a recognised university (preferred);
OR Diploma in Civil Engineering with significantly higher experience (12–15+ years), specifically in high-rise projects.
ExperienceMinimum 10 years of site experience in RCC building construction, out of which:
At least one complete high-rise project (B+10 or above) handled from excavation to finishing;
Experience in basement construction and multi-storey RCC frames is mandatory.
Technical Skills (Must-Have)Excellent ability to read, understand and coordinate ALL types of drawings:
Architectural, structural, MEP, shop drawings, GFC & revisions.
Strong knowledge of:
RCC design basics and rebar detailing concepts
Concrete technology and good concreting practices
Masonry, plaster, waterproofing and finishing activities
Familiarity with relevant IS codes for concrete, steel, brickwork, plaster, etc.
Software:
AutoCAD – must be able to read, verify and mark-up drawings
MS Excel & Word – for reporting, BOQs, measurements, billing support
Behavioural CompetenciesHigh level of ownership, reliability and accountability.
Detail-oriented with strong focus on quality and neatness.
Calm and solution-oriented in dealing with site issues and pressure situations.
Strong communication skills in Hindi (must) and working English (for drawings, email, reporting).
Ability to lead teams on site and coordinate with contractors, consultants and management.
Other RequirementsFull-time site-based role (6 days a week, extended hours during critical pours and major activities).
Preferably based in / willing to relocate near BIT Mesra, Ranchi.
