Position Overview

Manager – Shipbuilding Yard

Key Responsibilities

Production & Operations

• Lead and manage end-to-end production for FPBs, FRCs, LCAs, and RHIBs.
• Supervise hull fabrication, outfitting, machinery installation, and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with IRS, BV, and defence QA standards.
• Maintain production schedules, resource allocation, and delivery timelines.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate across design, procurement, QA, and logistics teams for seamless execution.
• Manage vendor relationships, subcontractor performance, and material supply.
• Liaise with defence clients and inspection agencies for project milestones and documentation.

Team Management

• Supervise technical and shop-floor staff including welders, laminators, electricians, and fitters.
• Promote a culture of safety, discipline, and productivity.
• Train and mentor new recruits in modern marine fabrication practices.

Technical Oversight

• Review construction drawings, layouts, and work instructions.
• Oversee integration of propulsion, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Conduct quality audits and support factory acceptance and sea trials.

Process & Cost Control

• Implement lean shipbuilding practices, optimize material usage, and minimize rework.
• Track project costs, efficiency metrics, and manpower utilization.
• Identify areas for process improvement and capacity enhancement.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education:

   B.E. / B.Tech in Naval Architecture, Marine, Mechanical, or Production Engineering.

• Experience:

   8–15 years in shipbuilding / boatbuilding (defence or commercial).
• Proven hands-on experience with FRP/GRP, aluminium, or HDPE craft manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of propulsion systems, outfitting, and naval standards.
• Familiarity with defence procurement (GeM, DAP 2020, QA, IRS) is preferred.
