The Role
We are seeking a
Senior Engineering Manager
to lead a high-performance team of Lead Engineers and Senior Engineers delivering modern datacenter and hybrid cloud solutions. This role requires a strong technical foundation in
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
and broad exposure to adjacent domains such as cloud computing, data protection, datacenter modernization, and automation.The Senior Engineering Manager will oversee execution excellence across multiple projects, guide technical direction, mature delivery processes, and develop talent within the growing Modern Platforms practice. This role blends technical depth with people leadership, operational oversight, and cross-functional collaboration with US delivery, presales, and practice leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery Excellence
- Provide technical direction across VCF deployments, datacenter modernization, cloud integrations, automation, and migration programs.
- Oversee design reviews, implementation plans, deployment standards, runbooks, and reusable templates.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for complex issues spanning VCF technology stack – SDDC Manager, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, VCF Operations, VCF Automation, hybrid cloud, and data protection platforms.
- Guide teams in delivering large-scale, multi-site projects with consistent quality and adherence to Modern Platforms best practices.
- Collaborate closely with US engineering and architecture teams to align delivery methodologies and platform strategy.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Manage a team of Lead Engineers and Senior Engineers across multiple technology tracks: VCF, Data Protection, Cloud Infra, Migration, Nutanix, and DevOps.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, skill assessments, and career development planning.
- Create structured technical learning paths for engineers progressing toward Lead and Architect roles.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
- Build succession plans for key roles and ensure depth and redundancy across skill tracks.
Practice Growth & Capability Expansion
- Drive skill diversification within the team to expand capabilities in Nutanix, Data Protection, Cloud, Migration, and DevOps alongside core VCF expertise.
- Build training programs, certification roadmaps, and internal labs to accelerate capability development.
- Identify gaps in skills and propose hiring strategies, including specialization-based hiring plans.
- Ensure the India team evolves from a virtualization-focused group into a full-scope Modern Platforms delivery powerhouse.
Operational Excellence & Project Governance
- Provide oversight on resource allocation, workload balancing, utilization, and project staffing.
- Ensure proper project planning, risk management, dependency tracking, and milestone alignment.
- Implement quality assurance frameworks across deployments, documentation, and customer deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including automation of repetitive tasks and operational processes.
Stakeholder Management & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Act as a primary point of contact for US Engineering Directors, Delivery Managers, and Practice Leadership.
- Participate in presales discussions, effort estimation, solution walkthroughs, and customer positioning.
- Represent the Modern Platforms India team in leadership forums, program reviews, and operational syncs.
- Communicate status, risks, escalations, and strategic recommendations clearly and proactively.
Qualifications
- 10–15 years of experience in virtualization, cloud, or hybrid IT delivery, including 3–5 years in a team leadership or engineering management role.
- Strong technical understanding of VMware SDDC technologies: vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, SDDC Manager, VCF Operations, VCF Automation and vSphere Kubernetes Services (VKS).
- Exposure to at least one adjacent domain:
- Data Protection (Veeam, Rubrik, Zerto, Cohesity, Commvault)
- Cloud (AWS, Azure, AVS, VMC)
- Datacenter modernization (Nutanix, NC2, HCI platforms)
- Automation (Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD)
- Experience working with globally distributed teams, especially US counterparts.
- Strong project governance, delivery management, and customer communication skills.
- Preferably certified:
- VCP-DCV, VCP-VCF Administrator, VCAP (preferred)
- Data Protection vendor certifications like Rubrik, Commvault, Zerto etc. (optional but required)
- AWS/Azure Fundamentals or Architect-level (preferred)
