About the Role

Head of Hosting Operations

You’ll oversee infrastructure stability, performance, and scalability — leading improvements across systems, documentation, and automation. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives on both technical depth and operational structure.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimise all hosting infrastructure, including 

  CloudLinux servers

  , 

  DirectAdmin

  , and 

  WHMCS

  .
• Maintain and enhance system reliability through proactive monitoring, updates, and performance tuning.
• Lead the maintenance of 

  WordPress Multisite

   and standalone environments, ensuring seamless updates, plugin audits, and security hardening.
• Manage 

  email hosting

   operations, including IP reputation, spam filtering, and deliverability standards.
• Ensure 

  robust backup and recovery systems

   are in place and tested regularly.
• Streamline and document all operational processes — from onboarding and access control to escalation and change management.
• Oversee client management tools (

  WHMCS

  , 

  Xero

  , billing workflows, renewals, provisioning).
• Implement modern 

  monitoring, alerting, and reporting

   systems to maintain high uptime.
• Evaluate and execute improvements in automation, system scalability, and technical support efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with applicable data protection and hosting standards (NZ, UK, EU).
• Lead and mentor technical contractors or junior engineers, ensuring knowledge sharing and consistent delivery.

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years

  in hosting or DevOps leadership — ideally managing 

  high-volume WordPress

   or similar PHP environments.
• Expertise with 

  CloudLinux

  , 

  DirectAdmin

  , and 

  WHMCS

  .
• Proven experience optimising 

  WordPress Multisite

   environments for performance and uptime.
• Strong grasp of 

  DNS management

  , 

  email infrastructure

  , and 

  IP reputation handling

  .
• Excellent understanding of 

  backups

  , 

  disaster recovery

  , and 

  system security monitoring

  .
• Hands-on ability to troubleshoot complex hosting issues end-to-end.
• Strong documentation discipline and experience in setting operational standards.
• Familiarity with 

  Moodle

   or other PHP applications is a bonus.
• Comfortable collaborating across time zones and managing remote contractors or vendors.
