Senior Backend Engineer

WHAT YOU’LL DO: Product Innovation : Help create a brand-new Motion product from the ground up—owning both the architecture and its end-to-end development Technical Vision & Roadmapping : Define and articulate a long-term architecture strategy for our backend systems, and translate that into quarterly roadmaps alongside engineering, design, product, and senior leadership Build & Operate : Design, write, test, and deploy high-quality, well-tested code (using pytest/unittest) to meet customer needs and SLAs. Collaborate with frontend and data teams to fine-tune REST APIs serving millions of users Cloud Infrastructure : Leverage AWS services (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, CloudFormation/IaC) to architect, monitor, and optimize system performance and reliability Continuous Improvement : Identify bottlenecks, reduce technical debt, and introduce tools or processes to enhance team productivity and reduce operational risk WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: 4+ years of software engineering experience, with hands-on Python and Flask development Proven track record designing, building, and maintaining production microservices and RESTful APIs Strong unit and integration-testing skills (pytest, unittest or equivalent) Proficiency with PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, performance tuning) Solid AWS experience—deploying, scaling, and operating services in a cloud environment Deep understanding of software architecture principles, scalability patterns, and maintainability best practices Excellent communication and teamwork skills; able to partner effectively with cross-functional teams Solid understanding of DevOps practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automation).
