2. Qualification

Mandatory

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Aluminium Extrusion QC.

Preferred

• Diploma / BE / B.Tech / ITI in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, Tool & Die, or equivalent.
• Experience with IS 733 / IS 1285 standards and alloy properties.

3. Job Summary

The Quality Supervisor ensures all extruded profiles meet dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties, surface finish quality, and customer specifications.
The role includes monitoring in-process quality, minimizing rejections, conducting final inspections, maintaining ISO documentation, and supervising QC inspectors across shifts.

4. Detailed Responsibilities

A. In-Process Quality Control

• Inspect billet cutting, extrusion, quenching, puller operation, stretcher alignment, cutting, ageing, and finishing.
• Verify all dimensional tolerances: width, thickness, OD/ID, straightness, twist, bow, wall thickness, etc.
• Identify and act on extrusion defects such as die lines, pitting, hot cracks, bends, scratches, surface roughness variations, metal flow issues.
• Communicate immediate corrective action to production to prevent recurrence.

B. Final Inspection & Dispatch Clearance

• Conduct final QC check before packing and dispatch.
• Verify hardness values (post-ageing) and mechanical property compliance.
• Reject non-conforming material and escalate to Production Head & Plant Head.

C. Documentation & ISO Compliance

• Maintain inspection reports, rejection logs, calibration records, hardness test logs, and traceability documents.
• Ensure documentation meets ISO 9001, customer audit requirements, and internal audit norms.
• Update checklists and SOPs as necessary.

D. Rejection Analysis & Improvement

• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring defects.
• Coordinate with die shop for corrective actions.
• Monitor defect-wise rejection trends and implement preventive actions.
• Achieve month-on-month rejection reduction targets.

E. Team Management

• Supervise QC inspectors and allocate responsibilities across machines and shifts.
• Train team members on measurement tools, defect identification, gauges, and SOPs.
• Conduct weekly training and skill assessment programs.

F. Customer Specification & Compliance

• Interpret customer drawings, tolerances, profiles, and surface finish requirements.
• Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI) for new dies and sample approvals.
• Support customer audits, plant visits, and technical reviews.

G. Tool & Instrument Management

• Ensure periodic calibration of inspection instruments.
• Maintain proper storage, condition, and availability of all QC tools.

H. Safety, 5S & Discipline

• Ensure safe quality inspection practices and strict PPE usage.
• Maintain 5S in QC lab, calibration room, and all inspection zones.
• Report unsafe conditions or non-compliance immediately.

5. Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of aluminium extrusion quality parameters and process flow.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand die tolerances.
• Understanding of metal flow behaviour and alloy characteristics.
• Practical experience with hardness testing and ageing validation.
• Strong communication, documentation, and leadership abilities.
• Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement systems.
