Job Title: Production Engineer – Fabrication

Job Summary:
The Production Engineer – Fabrication will be responsible for overseeing and managing all fabrication activities for crane structures, spools, and related heavy engineering components. The role involves planning production schedules, optimizing fabrication processes, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and driving continuous improvement to achieve cost-effective and timely project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fabrication Planning & Execution
Plan and supervise fabrication activities for structural components, crane booms, jibs, frames, and spools.
Prepare daily and weekly production schedules in coordination with planning and design teams.
Ensure fabrication work follows approved drawings, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and standards.
Coordinate with cutting, welding, machining, and assembly teams for seamless operations.
2. Process Control & Optimization
Monitor fabrication processes and identify bottlenecks, proposing process improvements for higher efficiency.
Implement Lean and 5S principles to improve productivity and minimize waste.
Optimize material flow and reduce rework, rejections, and downtime.
3. Quality Assurance
Ensure fabrication quality meets design tolerances, weld quality, and surface finish requirements.
Work closely with the QA/QC department for in-process and final inspections.
Ensure adherence to ASME / AWS / ISO fabrication standards.
Support preparation of inspection reports and test documentation for client approval.
4. Resource & Cost Management
Manage manpower, machines, tools, and consumables effectively.
Monitor fabrication consumables (welding rods, gases, grinding materials, etc.) and control costs.
Support procurement in planning raw material requirements.
5. Safety & Maintenance
Ensure all fabrication activities follow plant safety procedures and lifting norms.
Conduct regular safety toolbox talks with welders, fitters, and helpers.
Report and address unsafe conditions or equipment.
Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive maintenance of fabrication equipment (cutting machines, welding sets, cranes, jigs, and fixtures).
6. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily production reports, material traceability records, and job cards.
Update production data in ERP/MIS systems.
Track progress against project timelines and highlight delays or material issues.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering
Experience:
4–8 years of experience in fabrication production, preferably in crane manufacturing, pressure spools, steel structures, or heavy fabrication industries.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in fabrication techniques: welding (MIG, TIG, SMAW, SAW), cutting, bending, and assembly.
Strong understanding of fabrication drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.
Knowledge of material grades (carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel).
Familiarity with WPS, PQR, and welder qualification processes.
ERP or production planning software experience preferred.
