Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented

Mechanical Design Engineer

to join our team in the

transformer manufacturing industry

. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and optimization of power and distribution transformers, ensuring product performance, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical components and systems for power and distribution transformers (core, tank, cooling systems, enclosures, bushings, conservators, etc.).
Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings using tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Creo.
Perform thermal, structural, and mechanical analysis of transformer components using FEA tools.
Collaborate with electrical design, production, and quality teams to ensure integrated product development.
Select materials, finishes, and mechanical components in line with electrical and thermal design requirements.
Design and specify transformer accessories like radiators, fans, tap changers, pressure relief devices, etc.
Support the prototyping and manufacturing processes, ensuring manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
Ensure designs meet applicable standards such as IEC, IEEE, ANSI, and ISO.
Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), design documentation, and technical specifications.
Participate in design reviews, failure analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for component selection and quality verification.
Support testing, inspection, and commissioning of transformers as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Minimum 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the transformer or power equipment industry.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools is a plus.
Familiarity with electromechanical systems, thermal design, and pressure vessel codes.
Understanding of transformer manufacturing processes (welding, machining, painting, sheet metal fabrication).
Strong understanding of relevant standards (IEC, ANSI, IEEE).
Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with 3D modeling and PDM systems.
Exposure to transformer testing procedures and mechanical failure modes.
Knowledge of PLM systems, ERP integration for BOMs.
Experience in value engineering and cost optimization.
