Role Overview


The HR / IR Manager will oversee all Industrial Relations activities, ensuring compliance with labour legislation, maintaining harmonious union relations, and supporting a disciplined, safe, and productive shop-floor environment. The role demands strong knowledge of labour laws, hands-on experience in union negotiations, and the ability to manage complex employee relations issues with fairness and authority.

Key Responsibilities

Industrial Relations & Union Management

  • Maintain effective relationships with union representatives and shop-floor employees.
  • Lead negotiations for wage settlements, productivity agreements, grievance handling, and disciplinary matters.
  • Facilitate periodic meetings with unions and ensure transparent communication on organizational policies and decisions.
  • Prevent and manage industrial disputes, strikes, and work stoppages through proactive engagement.

Labour Law Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable labour laws and statutory requirements (Factories Act, ID Act, Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages Act, Shops & Establishments, EPF, ESI, CLRA, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate statutory records, registers, and returns as per government norms.
  • Coordinate labour audits and inspections; prepare documentation and manage compliance closures.
  • Advise management on changes in labour legislation and their implications.

Disciplinary Procedures & Employee Relations

  • Draft, review, and implement standing orders, policies, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Conduct domestic inquiries, issue show-cause notices, and ensure proper documentation of disciplinary actions.
  • Address grievances promptly and ensure fair resolution mechanisms.

Contract Labour & Vendor Management

  • Monitor contract labour deployment, attendance, billing, and statutory compliance of contractors.
  • Conduct periodic audits of contractors for adherence to labour regulations.
  • Ensure onboarding, safety orientation, and welfare provisions for contract workforce.

HR Administration & Welfare

  • Promote employee welfare activities, safety practices, and statutory benefits.
  • Support manpower planning, recruitment for operational roles, and workforce optimization.
  • Maintain employee records, MIS reports, absenteeism data, and IR dashboards.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in HR / IR / Labour Management (MLM / MSW / MBA HR preferred).
  • 12 to 20 years of experience in Industrial Relations, preferably in manufacturing or large-scale plant operations.
  • Strong command of Indian labour laws and compliance frameworks.
  • Proven experience in union handling, negotiations, and disciplinary processes.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with calm, firmness, and fairness.
