Job Description

Lead — Fraud & Risk 6 to 8 years of experience About Setu India’s economic infrastructure needs a complete overhaul. Today our digital economy rides on rickety monolithic systems built in the mid-90s. It takes months to do a simple bank integration and launch a fintech product. This inefficiency cannot continue. If our economy has to grow, we need killer API infrastructure for financial services that rivals the likes of Stripe, and AWS. At Setu, we are fixing this for good, by abstracting away the complexity of working with legacy financial infrastructure and replacing it with a developer platform that offers clean, high-performance API bundles to embed finance into any application. So that developers can do what they do best, build amazing products that improve people’s lives. More about Setu Importance of the role Risk is at the heart of everything we do — especially in the financial ecosystem, where trust and reliability are non-negotiable. This role is critical to safeguarding the integrity of our systems and protecting our customers and partners from fraud, misuse, and operational lapses. As the Risk Team Lead, you’ll be responsible for designing and running real-time transaction monitoring, ensuring AML compliance, and resolving disputes and chargebacks in collaboration with banks and regulators like NPCI. You’ll also act as the bridge between operations, compliance, and technology, helping us build a safer, more resilient platform as we scale. What will you do at Setu? Oversee Transaction Monitoring & AML: Design and implement real-time transaction monitoring frameworks. Ensure AML compliance, including checks, reporting, and investigation of suspicious activity. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for prompt resolution of flagged cases. Manage Dispute Resolution & Chargebacks: Lead the team responsible for investigating customer disputes and chargebacks. Liaise with partner banks and NPCI to ensure timely resolution. Set and enforce SLAs for the entire chargeback lifecycle. Identify trends in disputes and drive process improvements. Reporting & Insights: Analyze patterns in fraud, chargebacks, and transaction anomalies. Generate actionable insights for leadership to drive proactive risk mitigation. Ensure audit-readiness and maintain documentation for all risk-related operations. Tech & Automation Collaboration: Work with the tech team to improve and scale automated monitoring tools and alerting systems. Recommend product changes or controls based on risk insights. Who is the right fit for this role? To excel in this role, you will need— You have sharp instincts and sound judgment: You’re the kind of person who can smell a risk before it turns into a problem. You rely on data, but you also trust your gut when something feels off — and you know when to escalate, when to investigate, and when to act. You are calm under pressure: Whether it’s a potential fraud incident, a chargeback escalation, or an SLA breach, you don’t panic. You prioritize, communicate clearly, and lead your team through the chaos with clarity and confidence. You are process-obsessed: You know that good risk management isn’t reactive — it’s systemic. You bring structure where there is ambiguity, document everything, and build repeatable processes that your team can rely on. You speak both “ops” and “tech”: You can work with frontline ops teams and speak their language — but you’re equally comfortable collaborating with engineers to tweak monitoring rules or build automation. You bridge the gap between process and product effortlessly. You care deeply about doing the right thing: You understand the responsibility that comes with managing risk in a financial product. You have high integrity, take regulatory obligations seriously, and are driven by a sense of ownership for customer and business outcomes. You lead with empathy and clarity: You support your team, keep them aligned in high-stress situations, and ensure they have the tools and context to succeed. You don’t micromanage, but you’re hands-on when it counts. Why Setu? We will spare no efforts to ensure that Setu empowers you to do the most important and impactful work of your career— Opportunity to work closely with the founding team who built and scaled public infrastructure such as UPI, GST, Aadhaar, etc. We care deeply about your development.
