Role Overview

As a Lead Data Scientist at Novel Patterns, you won’t just build models - you’ll shape how financial institutions make decisions at scale.

You will lead the design and deployment of production-grade ML systems that power credit underwriting, fraud detection, early warning systems, and portfolio intelligence used by banks and NBFCs across geographies. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct ownership of outcomes in live customer environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end data science initiatives from problem framing to deployment and monitoring
• Design, build, tune, and productionize ML/statistical models for credit risk, fraud, and portfolio analytics
• Analyze large structured and unstructured datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and insights
• Partner closely with product, engineering, and business teams to embed models into core platforms
• Mentor junior data scientists and establish best practices for experimentation and deployment
• Ensure robustness, explainability, accuracy, and compliance of AI models
• Stay current with advances in AI/ML and apply them pragmatically to product innovation

Qualifications & Skills

• Master’s/PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
• 8+ years of experience in data science, including leadership of complex initiatives
• Strong grounding in ML algorithms, statistics, and applied AI
• Hands-on experience building and deploying models end-to-end
• Domain exposure to fintech, credit risk, fraud, or financial modeling preferred
• Strong communication skills with ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
