Job Description

Role of a Lab Technician A Lab Technician performs testing, inspection, sampling, and analysis of materials, products, or chemicals in a laboratory environment to maintain product quality and ensure standards are met. They assist engineers and quality teams by providing accurate test results and documentation. ⸻ Key Responsibilities of a Lab Technician 1. Sample Collection & Preparation • Collecting samples of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products • Preparing test samples as per standard procedures (cutting, grinding, polishing, chemical mixing, etc.) • Ensuring proper sample labeling and handling 2. Testing & Inspection • Performing physical, chemical, mechanical, or microbiological tests (depending on industry) • Operating laboratory testing equipment such as tensile tester, hardness tester, spectrometer, moisture meter, PH meter, viscosity tester, etc. • Calibrating and maintaining lab instruments 3. Quality Validation • Verifying that material and product quality meets standards (ISO, ASTM, BIS, NABL, etc.) • Reporting deviations, defects, or non-conformities to the QA/QC team • Supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions 4. Documentation & Record Keeping • Maintaining accurate test records, logs, reports, and certificates • Preparing daily/weekly test reports for production and quality teams • Managing lab files, product history, and sample tracking 5. Safety & Compliance • Following safety procedures and using PPE inside the laboratory • Handling chemicals, equipment, and samples safely • Supporting laboratory audits, certifications, and clean-room standards (5S) 6.
