Purpose & Scope:

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director – Data Engineering to lead the transformation and delivery of our enterprise data engineering landscape. This leader will drive modernization, innovation, and operational excellence across Retail Analytics, Planning, Merchandising, and Supply Chain domains. The role will oversee large-scale data platform migrations, optimize enterprise data pipelines, and build a high-performing data engineering team to deliver scalable, secure, and future-ready data products.

As a key member of the Analytics & Engineering leadership team, the Director will shape the enterprise data engineering strategy, drive cross-functional alignment, and enable the business to unlock actionable insights through a modern data foundation.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the strategic roadmap for enterprise data engineering modernization, aligning with the broader Analytics and Enterprise Architecture vision.
  • Lead the migration of legacy ecosystems to modern platforms like Databricks, Prophecy, and Delta Lake, driving operational resilience and scalability.
  • Shape enterprise data engineering covering ingestion, transformation, data lakehouse management, and delivery patterns across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Foster innovation in real-time data streaming, AI-enablement of pipelines, and low-code data development paradigms.

Enterprise Data Engineering & Platform Modernization

  • Architect and operationalize scalable data pipelines supporting Retail, Supply Chain, Merchandising, and Planning analytics use cases.
  • Oversee the integration of diverse enterprise systems: ERP (SAP, D365), POS, eCommerce, Warehouse Management, and 3PL partners.
  • Embed data quality, lineage, and observability across the data lifecycle leveraging SODA Cloud, Atlan, and Unity Catalog.
  • Optimize cost, performance, and resource efficiency of Spark-based workloads at scale.

Team & People Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-caliber data engineering organization, mentoring engineers and architects across multiple technology stacks.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, agile delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive talent strategy, succession planning, and team development.

Governance, Security & Operational Excellence

  • Establish robust governance practices, partnering closely with Information Security and Enterprise Data Governance teams.
  • Drive CI/CD, automated deployment, and monitoring frameworks for data pipelines and platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and enterprise security standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Enterprise Architects, Platform Engineering, and Business Leadership to align technology solutions with business priorities.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Retail Operations, and Analytics teams to deliver data solutions driving measurable business impact.




Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale data platform transformations in Retail, eCommerce, or Consumer Goods domains.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep expertise in Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, and cloud-native data platforms (AWS, Azure preferred).
  • Hands-on leadership of migration from legacy ETL platforms (Informatica, SSIS, Talend, Glue) to modern lakehouse architectures.
  • Proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL; strong familiarity with Prophecy.io or similar low-code data platforms.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management, and catalog platforms like Atlan and SODA Cloud.
  • Strong knowledge of retail business processes and retail data models.
