Position Overview (Brief Overview of the Role):

WRI India is seeking an intern for the Energy Program to support our work on energy transition. The intern will support various ongoing research initiatives through literature review, technical analysis, feasibility assessments, financing strategies, and solutions to accelerate grid planning for electric vehicle charging and adoption of energy storage. This role offers an excellent opportunity to engage in impactful research and work closely with electricity distribution utilities. The work will involve engagement with leading stakeholders in the transport and power sector.


While a primary area of engagement will be assisting the team in undertaking research around electric vehicles and energy storage, the interns will also contribute to broader programmatic work. This includes supporting ongoing initiatives focused on sub-national energy transitions, promoting clean energy adoption, decarbonization of demand and ensuring equitable development outcomes through the energy transition.



What you will do:


Research & Documentation

  • Perform detailed research on electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and energy storage.
  • Support background research and literature reviews on clean energy and low carbon technologies.
  • Systematically organize, and help conduct reviews of publicly available reports, regulatory orders, and policies related to energy transition.
  • Help compile illustrative case studies of good practices and innovations for adoption of renewable energy for electric vehicles and storage.
  • Contribute to research on energy transition policies and clean energy implementation.
  • Supporting in engagement with stakeholders such as project partners, utilities, and experts, including organizing and convening discussions and field visits.

Data & Analysis

  • Support the team in collection of quantitative and qualitative data by coordinating with partners.
  • Collate and analyze different data sets and generate insights.
  • Support drafting of working documents, briefs, and presentation material for internal and external dissemination


What you will need:

  • Master's degree in engineering, energy systems, public policy, economics, environmental studies, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research
  • Proficiency in MS Office is a must.
  • Proficiency in local language- Malayalam is preferred
  • Ability to generate high-quality research. Good writing skills is essential.
  • Prior work or understanding of power or electric mobility is preferable.
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner, think creatively, work efficiently under high pressure.
