Job Summary

A Government Business Development Manager is a professional responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing government contracts. They play a crucial role in expanding the companys presence in the government sector by fostering relationships with government agencies and prime contractors. A Government Business Development Manager plays a pivotal role in driving growth and success in government contracting. Their multifaceted responsibilities encompass identifying opportunities, nurturing relationships, and strategizing for business expansion, making them indispensable assets to any government contracting firm.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Actively monitor government procurement opportunities, including RFPs, RFQs, and other solicitations.
  • Analyze market trends, agency priorities, and procurement forecasts to identify potential business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, prime contractors, and industry partners to enhance the companys positioning for contract awards.
  • Collaborate with proposal teams to develop winning proposals, providing strategic input and ensuring alignment with client requirements and agency objectives.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to gather intelligence on competitors, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Identify areas for business growth and contribute to the formulation of effective strategies.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with the companies goals and objectives.
  • Create comprehensive plans to penetrate new markets, expand service offerings, and achieve revenue targets.
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions in coordination with legal and procurement teams, ensuring favorable outcomes while mitigating company risks.
  • Adhere to strict compliance and ethical standards in all business development activities, ensuring proposals and contracts meet regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Track and analyze key business development metrics, such as win rates, pipeline growth, and revenue forecasts.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management to assess performance and guide decision-making.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

  • Strong understanding of government procurement processes and business development practices.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze market data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Experience in preparing or supporting proposal development for government contracts preferred.
  • Skilled in contract negotiation, compliance, and strategic planning.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to collaborate effectively across teams.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
  • 8 - 10 years of experience in government relations or public affairs.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in lobbying or advocacy is a plus.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
