International Tech – Marketplace and WFS team enables our Marketplace experience to our sellers and powers 3P journey for our customers. The tech that we build are used in most of the markets where Walmart has its presence (outside US). We are working on solving some of the most complex problems at scale through tech solutions and platforms powered by AI.Our team is a global team powering the strategic growth for Walmart marketplace. We work on cutting edge technology at scale and solve unique problems in the space of marketplace.The team at IDC Bangalore addresses seller, associate, and business needs. This team is part of Walmart International, which operates over 5,900 retail units under 55 banners in 26 countries, including Africa, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Japan, Mexico.
What will you Do?
Distinguished Software Engineer role is a hands-on role that support architectural designs and advisory for Marketplace and WFS areas owned by teams in IDC. This is a highly technical role where the right candidate can go deep into specific application and services, and work on higher-level multi-domain system designs.This specific architect role will spend up to half of their time supporting specific teams and initiatives.The remainder of time will be prioritized on horizontal improvements that benefit all teams. Examples include process simplification and automation and establishing foundational standards.Direct support and engagement with engineering teams will improve designs, reduce complexity, and contribute to adoption of better practices and strengthened expertise. Contributions towards larger systemic decoupling, and better shared standards will help elevate the entire engineering org and improve the overall quality, stability, and availability of our production systems. Direct team engagement across many domains will increase networking which further elevates the overall org. This role has a huge impact to the business as the new designed platform will power the growth of the market to the multi-billion dollar.This opportunity brings a unique experience of leading the international growth objective of increasing the GMV through tech – critical growth area for Walmart international, improving the platform resilience and scalability, speed and productivity through, agentic and genAI.The role will be responsible to lead a group of principal and staff engineers in marketplace team. The role will be responsible for the tech outcomes in the space of –
- Driving the end to end architecture of multiple value streams marketplace.
- Build the platform maturity strategy, domain driven design. Align the architecture leadership and US platform teams on the platform strategy.
- Adopt the enterprise agentic framework and build the adoption strategy within marketplace space. Lead the adoption of agentic framework to principals and staff engineers.
- Provide architecture and design solutions for the complex cross domain problems and bring alignment on the proposed architecture within architecture review board.
- Hands on with the coding and should be able to review the complex code written by senior tech associates.
- Lead the OE / EE maturity in the team
- Lead and inspire high-performing engineering teams to build and scale highly reliable, secure, and performant platform / products and frameworks.
- Own the technical design, realization and Devops for a complex micro services ecosystem for a large-scale ecommerce.
- Drive a results-oriented culture with a strong focus on engineering excellence, execution and propagate build for scale mindset.
- Develop trusted partnerships with developers, partners, and architecture leaders to drive optimized platform / product delivery.
- Lead complex technical and strategic discussions that involve multiple personas including engineering, architect, product, customer, and other stakeholders.
- Drive development and designs/solutions involving the integration of varied technologies and products to meet business objectives.
- Bring a strong industry perspective that can help shape and evolve the internal developer experience to be as good or better than other leading technology organizations.
- Drive effective, mature Agile practices and continuous execution improvements within your teams.
- Leverage technology from Global solutions existing in Walmart ecosystem to build / leverage scalable and innovative solutions.
- High sense of urgency to solve problems and in executing them with extreme ownership.
- Attitude to enjoy in a fun, fast-paced environment.
What You Will Bring
- 15+ years of experience of Architecture and engineering experience with a focus large scale platform and product development in open stack and microservices delivery environment
- Should have a keen eye for new technology trends and how they can be used to help grow the business, and a proven ability to be a game changer.
- A technical expert with in-depth knowledge in building distributed systems and products using hybrid cloud technology handling massive amounts of data. Should have built a complex microservices based platform or product.
- Good understanding of multiple design patterns. Expert in full stack development lifecycle and architecture. Designed and built the scalable and resilient Microservices based platforms and products. Good understanding of agentic and genAI frameworks and working knowledge of MCP.
- Must have – Go getter, ability to collaborate in matrix org structure. Influence the peers and, leadership in architecture and engineering space on the design decisions. Ability to mentor the senior ICs in the team.
- Depth focus and an attitude to understand and resolve complex technical issues.
- Experience of working with globally distributed teams.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, good with people, ability to negotiate.
- Good to have the domain expertise in Marketplace and fulfillment space.
Preferred experiences and exposures:
- Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
- Have good experience in performance instrumentation, tuning, and optimization of large-scale products.
- Have good knowledge in design patterns while building cloud-native products.
- Experience in the eCommerce domain will be a huge positive.
