Job Title: Director – Record to Report (R2R)

Location: Bangalore, India 

Reports To: VP, Assistant Controller  

Role Overview 

As part of Lumen’s multi-year Finance Modernization and Simplification (M&S) program, the Director of Record to Report (R2R) will lead the global R2R tower within our Strategic Locations hub in Bangalore. This leader will be accountable for building and operating a world-class R2R organization that integrates process excellence, AI-driven automation, and data intelligence to enable Lumen’s future-state finance model. 

The role requires a strategic and execution-oriented leader who can balance operational rigor with transformation leadership, driving standardization, automation, and efficiency across global entities while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and speed in reporting.  

Key Responsibilities 

1. R2R Operations Leadership 

• Establish a center of excellence for R2R operations, setting benchmarks for performance and innovation. 

• Lead the end-to-end Record to Report function — including journal entry, reconciliations, intercompany, fixed assets, period close, consolidation, and reporting. 

• Own performance across global SLAs and KPIs related to timeliness, accuracy, and control adherence. 

• Drive cross-functional alignment with Controllership, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and external reporting teams. 

• Partner with Controllership, FP&A, and other finance functions to ensure seamless integration across upstream and downstream processes. 

• Oversee service delivery teams across India and Poland, ensuring a unified global operating rhythm. 

2. Transformation & Process Optimization 

• Partner with Global Process Owners (GPOs) and the Finance Transformation Office to design and deploy future-state R2R processes aligned with AI-native operating principles. 

• Sponsor strategic automation and analytics through close collaboration with the Finance AI COE to enable predictive reconciliations, automated journal entries, and anomaly detection. 

• Standardize processes across business units and geographies, eliminating duplication and manual effort. 

• Drive continuous improvement using Lean methodologies, data-driven insights, and digital tools. 

• Govern process harmonization across business units, ensuring scalability and resilience  

3. Governance, Controls, and Compliance 

• Ensure all R2R activities comply with US GAAP, SOX, and internal policy requirements. 
• Lead risk mitigation strategies and control enhancements across all finance entities.  
• Oversee audit strategy and readiness, representing R2R in internal and external audit engagements. 
• Establish a robust control environment across all entities and service lines, including documentation, evidence retention, and audit readiness. 

• Collaborate with auditors, risk, and compliance teams to maintain a best-in-class governance model.  

4. People Leadership & Organizational Build 

• Build and scale a high-performing R2R organization within Lumen’s Strategic Locations model, driving talent development and succession planning. 

• Develop a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning—empowering teams to embrace digital tools and automation. 

• Partner with HR and Workforce Planning to optimize global location mix, role design, and career pathing for finance professionals in India. 

5. Stakeholder & Change Management 

• Act as a strategic advisor to senior finance leaders, GPOs, and the CFO organization on R2R operations and transformation. 

• Partner with Technology, AI COE, and Process Redesign teams to ensure alignment on ERP, data architecture, and automation enablement. 

• Lead change management efforts to embed new ways of working across global teams, ensuring smooth transition to the future operating model. 

• Build executive-level relationships across Technology, HR, and Transformation teams to drive alignment and adoption.  

Key Deliverables 

• Reduction in close cycle time and improved reporting accuracy. 

• Scaled deployment of AI-enabled automation across global R2R processes. Measurable cost savings from process standardization and offshore leverage. 

• High engagement and low attrition within the India-based R2R organization. 
• Executive-level compliance assurance and risk management across all jurisdictions 

Education 

• Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, CMA, or equivalent required. 

• MBA or advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred. 

Experience 

• 15+ years in accounting operations, including 5+ years leading global R2R or Controllership functions within Shared Services or Global Business Services (GBS). 

• Demonstrated success in finance transformation, shared services buildout, or GBS expansion. 

• Strong understanding of ERP platforms (SAP) and digital enablers such as RPA, AI, analytics, and workflow automation. 

• Experience operating in a matrixed, global environment with multiple stakeholders.
