Role Description

We are seeking a full-time, on-site hand-on Database Administrator specializing in PostgreSQL and compatible distributed systems to work from our office in Mangalagiri. The role involves managing, designing, and maintaining databases to ensure optimal performance, security, reliability, strong Linux system knowledge, database performance tuning skills, and disciplined operational practices.

The DBA will be responsible for installation, configuration, monitoring, query performance, data distribution planning, high availability, and future scale-out planning. Prior experience with a specific distributed database product is not required. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and implementing best practices in database management are integral aspects of this role.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain database servers on Linux systems
• Monitor database health, latency, replication, and node resource utilization
• Identify, analyze, and tune slow SQL queries using logs and performance views
• Perform query analysis using EXPLAIN (ANALYZE) and execution plans
• Design schemas and primary keys optimized for sharding and growth
• Plan and manage data distribution and rebalancing across nodes
• Plan and support high-availability database deployments in an on-prem environment
• Participate in capacity planning, node expansion, and scale-out strategies
• Assist with designing, testing, and validating failover and disaster-recovery scenarios
• Own backup, restore, and disaster-recovery testing procedures
• Perform rolling upgrades and node maintenance with minimal downtime
• Troubleshoot database, OS, disk, memory, and network performance issues
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and audit logging
• Follow strict change-management, security, and compliance procedures
• Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams

Required skills

Database

• Strong PostgreSQL fundamentals

Proficiency in Database Administration, Database Design, and management best practices

• Query planner, indexing, WAL, replication, vacuum behavior
• Proven experience tuning SQL in production environments
• Experience operating databases in high-availability setups and disater recovery

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

Linux / Systems

• Strong Linux system administration skills
• CPU, memory, disk IO, filesystem tuning
• OS and kernel tuning for database workloads
• Shell scripting for automation and troubleshooting

Distributed systems

• Understanding of data distribution, replication, quorum, and consistency concepts
• Experience handling node failures and partial outages

Security & compliance

• Experience working in HIPAA or other regulated environments preferred
• Familiar with audit logging, access controls, and least-privilege principles
• Willingness to work strictly on-site and follow access-controlled procedures

Nice to have

• Experience with clustered or distributed data platforms
• Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Loki
• Automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform
• TLS, certificate management, encryption at rest
