Biomedical Engineer

1. Job Summary

The Biomedical Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and safe functioning of all medical equipment to ensure compliance with NABH standards, patient safety norms, and hospital quality processes. The role involves close coordination with clinical departments, vendors, and the quality team to maintain equipment uptime, documentation, and safety guidelines.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Equipment Management

• Install, test, and commission new medical equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) as per schedules.
• Maintain AMC/CMC records and coordinate with vendors for service visits and breakdown support.
• Monitor equipment performance and ensure minimal downtime.

B. NABH Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain documentation as per NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) standards, including:
• Equipment inventory
• Calibration records
• PM/CM records
• User training logs
• Electrical & safety testing records
• Ensure all biomedical processes comply with hospital policies and NABH guidelines.
• Participate in internal audits and support quality team in closing NCs related to biomedical engineering.

C. Safety & Quality Assurance

• Conduct electrical safety tests, leakage tests, and operational performance verification periodically.
• Ensure all equipment is calibrated on time and supported with valid calibration certificates.
• Implement equipment tagging (functional, under maintenance, condemned, spare).
• Conduct hazard analysis and support the Safety Committee with equipment-related safety checks.

D. User Training & Support

• Train doctors, nurses, and technicians in safe and proper equipment handling.
• Prepare SOPs and user manuals as required.
• Provide on-call support for troubleshooting equipment inside critical-care units (ICU, OT, NICU, Emergency).

E. Procurement & Vendor Coordination

• Participate in equipment selection, technical evaluation, and comparative analysis.
• Verify delivery, installation reports (DHR), and service contracts.
• Maintain coordination with suppliers for spares, repairs, and warranty support.

F. Equipment Lifecycle & Cost Control

• Monitor spare part consumption and manage stock levels efficiently.
• Participate in equipment condemnation and replacement planning.
• Recommend cost-effective solutions for repairs and upgrades.

3. Required Qualifications & SkillsEducational Requirements

• B.E. / B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering

OR

• Diploma in Biomedical Engineering with relevant experience

Experience

• 1–5 years for Engineer / Executive level
• 5+ years for Senior Engineer level
• Experience in a NABH-accredited multispeciality hospital preferred.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of ICU, OT, CSSD, Radiology, Laboratory, and Emergency equipment.
• Understanding of NABH standards for medical equipment safety.
• Familiarity with PM/CM procedures, calibration, and safety guidelines.
• Ability to interpret service manuals and technical documentation.

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Equipment uptime (≥ 95%)
• Completion of PM schedule (100%)

• User training coverage and feedback

5. Work Conditions

• May require on-call duties for emergency breakdowns.
• Work across all hospital departments including ICU, OT, Cath Lab, Radiology, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹65,000.00 per month
