Why we're hiring:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced BI Developer to join our dynamic data and analytics team. This role is crucial for empowering our business stakeholders with reliable, insightful, and user-friendly data solutions. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our business intelligence infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on leveraging Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data within Google BigQuery, and building sophisticated dashboards and reports in Looker. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Looker development, strong SQL skills for data extraction and transformation from BigQuery, and a solid understanding of digital analytics principles.
What you'll be doing:
- Looker Development & Administration:
- Design, develop, and maintain complex Looker models (LookML) to create robust and scalable data views for various business domains.
- Build, optimize, and manage interactive Looker dashboards, Explores, and Looks that provide actionable insights to stakeholders across marketing, product, finance, and operations.
- Administer Looker instances, manage user access, and ensure data security and governance within the platform.
- Promote Looker best practices, conduct training sessions, and serve as a Looker subject matter expert for the organization.
Data Extraction & Transformation (BigQuery & GA4):
- Write highly optimized and complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load (ETL/ELT) data from Google BigQuery, with a specific focus on raw Google Analytics 4 (GA4) event data.
- Understand the GA4 data schema in BigQuery and effectively manipulate this data to create meaningful metrics and dimensions for reporting.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure data quality, availability, and optimal performance of data pipelines feeding into BigQuery.
- Develop and maintain data transformation logic within BigQuery or other tools to prepare data for consumption in Looker.
Reporting & Analytics:
- Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications for BI solutions, reports, and dashboards.
- Perform in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights, particularly related to digital performance and user behavior.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of all reported data.
- Provide ad-hoc data analysis and reporting support to various business units.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with business users to understand their data needs, gather requirements, and deliver tailored BI solutions.
- Clearly communicate complex technical concepts and data insights to non-technical audiences.
- Act as a bridge between data engineering and business teams.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and features in Looker, BigQuery, GA4, and the broader BI landscape.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and enhanced data capabilities.
What you'll need:
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Required Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
- 5-8 years of proven experience as a BI Developer, Data Analyst, or similar role with a strong focus on data visualization and reporting.
- Expert-level proficiency in Looker development, including extensive experience with LookML modeling, dashboard creation, and Looker administration.
- Strong hands-on experience extracting, transforming, and querying large datasets from Google BigQuery using advanced SQL.
- Demonstrable experience working with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data, including understanding its event-based model and querying GA4 raw data in BigQuery.
- Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries (CTEs, window functions, aggregate functions, subqueries).
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for business users.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
- Desired Skills and Abilities (Nice-to-Haves):
- Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus, but Looker expertise is paramount.
- Familiarity with other GCP services (e.g., Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Cloud Functions).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git/GitHub) for LookML development.
- Knowledge of Python for data manipulation or scripting.
- Experience in an e-commerce, digital marketing, or SaaS environment.
- Understanding of A/B testing methodologies and measurement.
