Assistant Manager – Raw Materials (Excipients)

Job Purpose:

To ensure timely procurement, quality assurance, inventory management, and regulatory compliance of excipient raw materials used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

Raw Material Procurement (Excipients):

·        Source and procure excipient raw materials in line with production schedules and quality standards.

·        Negotiate with vendors for pricing, delivery timelines, and contracts.

·        Develop and maintain a reliable vendor base and assess supplier performance.

Inventory & Material Management:

·        Monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.

·        Coordinate with the production and planning teams for raw material requirement forecasts.

·        Ensure proper storage and handling of excipients as per GMP/GDP guidelines.

Documentation & Compliance:

·        Maintain accurate documentation (COA, MSDS, regulatory certifications).

·        Ensure supplier documentation is audit-ready and compliant with regulatory bodies (USFDA, EU, WHO-GMP, etc.).

·        Assist in vendor audits and inspections by regulatory authorities.

Quality Coordination:

·        Coordinate with QA/QC for sample analysis and approval of raw materials.

·        Ensure only approved vendors and materials are used in manufacturing.

Regulatory & Risk Management:

·        Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting excipient materials.

·        Identify and mitigate risks in the excipient supply chain.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

·        Work closely with R&D, QA/QC, Production, and SCM teams.

·        Support new product development by sourcing new excipients as per formulation needs.

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, or related field.

·        4–6 years of experience in excipient/raw material management in the pharma industry.

Skills & Competencies:

·        Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical excipients and material specifications.

·        Familiarity with GMP, GDP, ICH, and other regulatory guidelines.

·        Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.

·        SAP/ERP system proficiency.

·        Good communication and analytical skills
