Agilist (Agilist II)

Position Summary

We are seeking Agilists to empower product teams to operate efficiently, adopt agile best practices, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement. Agilists ensure that team planning and development activities align with agile principles. They drive cultural transformation through daily engagement, helping teams achieve product goals using agile methods. This role supports the setup of new agile teams, leads transformation efforts for 2–3 teams simultaneously, and contributes to communities of practice by guiding foundational agile team improvements.Titles may include Scrum Master, Senior Scrum Master, or Service Delivery Manager.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Facilitation of team-level agile events, workshops, and coaching sessions
  • Team-level documentation of agile methodologies, templates, and outputs
  • Product team delivery metrics and health reports
  • Product team agile maturity and continuous improvement plans

Product Strategy, Vision, and Planning

  • Own and define agile best practices at the team level including OKRs, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and team collaboration in partnership with the Product Owner
  • Communicate regularly with the product team and stakeholders to provide transparency on outcomes and impediments
  • Coach Product Owners and team members on agile principles, practices, and mindsets to build product management capabilities
  • Act as a transformational advocate promoting agile and product mindsets while constructively challenging the status quo

Product Design and Development

  • Advocate for a well-rounded, healthy team and maintain an up-to-date roster to ensure proper staffing and required skills
  • Shield the team from distractions and protect the integrity of the sprint
  • Partner with the Product Owner to ensure backlog work is well-scoped, prioritized, and planned; also assist with refining acceptance criteria, MVPs, and backlog items
  • Manage risks and inter-team dependencies to improve execution and support value delivery alongside the Senior Agilist
  • Own facilitation of agile practices including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, demos, retrospectives, team agreements, and dependency mapping

Performance Measurement and Optimization

  • Lead agile surveys and retrospectives to inform team-level agile roadmaps and maturity efforts
  • Establish and track team metrics to enhance delivery effectiveness and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience leading Agile transformations and facilitating team-level adoption as a Scrum Master or Kanban Service Delivery Manager
  • Lead the setup of at least one new Agile team and manage transformation efforts for multiple teams
  • Experienced in all stages of team maturity, from formation to high-performance delivery
  • Skilled in coaching Product Owners on work intake and backlog management
  • Ability to coach team members in agile principles and best practices
  • Collaborate with Product Leadership to promote team success
  • Clearly identify and communicate impediments and work with teams to address them
  • Identify risks to team plans and lead efforts to create mitigation strategies
  • Lead team-level transformation activities within the Agilist Community of Practice
  • Seek mentoring from senior agile practitioners and mentor junior Agilists
  • Strong knowledge of multiple agile frameworks and tools (Scrum, XP, Kanban)
  • Able to guide teams in adopting agile methodologies and improving collaboration
  • Build trust and rapport to foster a high-performing and psychologically safe team environment
