Job Description

Job Title: Head – Procurement (Wind Projects) Department: Procurement Location: Mumbai Reports To: Head – Commercial Experience: Minimum 20 years Education: B.E. / B. Tech (Mechanical/Electrical/Civil) + MBA preferred Industry Preference: Renewable Energy (Wind), EPC, Power, IPP Role Purpose: The role will be responsible for leading and managing the entire Procurement and Contract Management activities for wind energy projects. This includes handling large-value contracts for Wind Turbines, Balance of Plant (BoP), and related services from RFQ to award, ensuring procurement aligns with business goals, regulatory guidelines, and cost optimization targets. Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Procurement & Vendor Management:
  • Lead end-to-end procurement activities for wind energy projects, including RFQ, techno-commercial evaluation, negotiation, and finalization of contracts.
  • Handle Master Supply Agreements and contracts for Wind Turbines, BoP, and critical components.
  • Manage vendor relationships, performance evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives for cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation:
  • Lead drafting, reviewing, negotiation, and finalization of procurement contracts, ensuring risk mitigation and commercial advantage.
  • Finalize Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Contracts to ensure high plant performance, spare management, and alignment with revenue and EBITDA targets.
  • Ensure contractual provisions are aligned with Indian Electricity Act, Contract Act, Arbitration Act, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
  • Costing & Commercial Inputs:
  • Provide accurate bottom-up costing and budget estimates to Business Development (BD) teams for new wind project opportunities.
  • Identify cost drivers, optimize commercial terms, and ensure procurement aligns with project profitability goals.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence:
  • Ensure procurement processes comply with corporate governance, renewable energy standards, SECI, CEA, MNRE guidelines, and import/export regulations.
  • Stay updated with changes in legal, regulatory, and industry-specific frameworks impacting procurement.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Engineering, Legal, BD, Project Execution, and senior leadership for aligned procurement decisions.
  • Draft and provide legally sound, commercially viable responses to counterparties for project-specific requirements. Key Competencies & Skills:
  • Deep understanding of wind project procurement, techno-commercial evaluations, and vendor management.
  • Expertise in contract drafting, legal frameworks, and regulatory compliance for large-scale renewable projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of managing high-value contracts.
  • Familiarity with relevant Indian Electricity Act, Indian Contract Act, Arbitration Act, and mediation mechanisms.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage senior stakeholder expectations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic decision-making abilities. Preferred Candidate Profile:
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in procurement, contracts, and commercial management, with significant exposure to wind energy projects.
  • Proven track record of handling large value, complex procurement contracts in renewable energy, power, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Hands-on experience in legal and regulatory aspects related to procurement and project execution.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, vendors, and internal/external stakeholders simultaneously.
  • High levels of integrity, strategic thinking, and solution-oriented mindset.
