Project-Based Part-Time Accountant – Job Description (United States)

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Project-Based Part-Time Accountant to support our financial operations on an as-needed basis. The accountant will handle specific projects such as clean-up work, system transitions, reconciliations, reporting, and other accounting assignments aligned with US GAAP.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform accounting tasks on a project basis, including cleanup and catch-up work.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Prepare accurate financial statements and reports for assigned projects.
• Complete month-end and year-end close tasks as needed.
• Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense entries for project scope.
• Conduct bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analyses when required.
• Prepare schedules and documentation for audits or reviews.
• Communicate project status, progress, and findings to management.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal policies throughout project work.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience (adjust based on your needs).
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience using accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, SAP, or similar.
• Excellent Excel skills and ability to work independently.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
• Comfortable working part-time and delivering milestones within project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or CPA candidate (optional).
• Experience with project-based or contract accounting work.
• Familiarity with industry-specific accounting (e.g., real estate, construction, SaaS, retail).
