The Assistant Manager – Mechanical Maintenance is responsible for ensuring high reliability, availability, and performance of mechanical systems and equipment within the pipe manufacturing plant. The role focuses on preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, improving equipment uptime, and implementing engineering improvements that enhance production efficiency and safety.
Principal Accountabilities*
Maintain effective maintenance logs, history cards, and documentation.
Lead immediate response to mechanical failures affecting production.
Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) for major breakdowns and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime and improve machine availability.
Identify recurring issues and implement engineering improvements.
Monitor condition-based maintenance indicators (vibration, temperature, lubrication).
Recommend modifications, upgrades, and retrofits to enhance equipment reliability and safety.
Plan and maintain optimum stock of critical and fast-moving spare parts.
Coordinate procurement of mechanical spares, consumables, and tools.
Ensure cost-effective maintenance without compromising equipment reliability.
Ensure adherence to all safety standards for mechanical work, tools, and lifting equipment.
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001/14001/45001, OSHA standards, and plant safety norms.
Train and guide maintenance personnel on safe work practices (LOTO, permit-to-work system).
Supervise and guide mechanical engineers, fitters, and technicians.
Provide technical support and skill development for team members.
Coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, and production departments for integrated maintenance planning.
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly maintenance reports (MTTR, MTBF, downtime, breakdown trends).
Update maintenance MIS, SAP/ERP data, shutdown reports, and equipment history.
Present maintenance performance and improvement plans to senior management.
