About The Role
Wing is looking for a
Supplier Development Engineer
to join our
Supply Chain
team. This role will be based in
Chennai, India
. This role will play a critical role in strengthening our supply chain as you will work closely with our Engineering, Sourcing, and Supply Chain teams, providing essential technical expertise and guidance throughout the supplier down-selection, qualification, and onboarding processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, manufacturing processes, and quality systems, with a proven ability to assess supplier capabilities and drive continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Engineering teams to define technical requirements and specifications for new components and assemblies.
- Conduct in-depth technical assessments of potential suppliers, evaluating their manufacturing processes, engineering capabilities, quality management systems, and overall technical competency.
- Participate in supplier site visits and audits, providing critical technical input during the down-selection phase.
- Work with manufacturing process and quality engineering to develop and implement robust supplier qualification processes, including APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) reviews, DFM/DFA, incoming/outgoing quality control, and data collection.
- Provide hands-on technical support during the onboarding of new suppliers, assisting with process optimization, tooling validation, and initial production runs.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer between our engineering teams and new suppliers to ensure seamless integration and understanding of technical requirements.
- Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives with supplier performance for quality, yield and cost.
- Work with suppliers to implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA), root cause analysis and timely resolution.
- Monitor supplier performance from a technical perspective, providing regular feedback and support for improvement.
- Act as a technical liaison between our internal engineering, reliability, quality, sourcing, and supply chain teams and our contract manufacturers / suppliers.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align supplier development strategies with overall business objectives.
What You’ll Need
- 5+ years of experience in supplier development, quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a similar role within a technical manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related field), or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience conducting technical supplier assessments and audits.
- Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC machining, injection molding, stamping, electronics assembly, electronic harnesses, molded foam, SMT).
- Experience with quality management systems and quality tools (e.g., FMEA, SPC, MSA, 8D, 5 Whys).
- Experience with statistical process control, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, Gauge R & R, NPI (new product introduction), and fixture design / qualification.
- Experience working with a global supply chain.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
