Role Overview
As a senior member of Zeeco's Controls & Instrumentation team for Vapor Recovery Units, you will lead engineering efforts for high-value global projects involving fired and process equipment. This role provides the opportunity to work closely with international clients, global Zeeco engineering centers, and multidisciplinary teams, driving the development of FEED and detailed design packages for advanced vapor recovery and emission control systems.You will contribute to projects across diverse regions, gaining exposure to global standards, engineering practices, and world-class equipment design methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop FEED deliverables including Control Philosophy, Instrument Index, I/O List, P&IDs, and Preliminary Cause & Effect Diagrams.
- Translate process inputs into comprehensive C&I engineering documents and specifications.
- Perform sizing, selection, and specification of transmitters, analyzers, control valves, actuators, and other field instruments for hazardous and non-hazardous areas.
- Prepare and review datasheets, loop diagrams, logic diagrams, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, JB & panel drawings, and IOM manuals.
- Generate accurate Control Narratives and ensure correct implementation in PLC/DCS/SCADA/BMS/ESD systems.
- Lead and participate in 3D model reviews, HAZOP, SIL studies, and technical design review meetings with clients and global teams.
- Ensure engineering compliance with API, NFPA, IEC, ISA, ATEX, and applicable local regulations.
- Prepare Hazardous Area Classification documentation and ensure appropriate selection of Ex-proof or Intrinsically Safe instrumentation.
- Integrate safety, reliability, and lifecycle cost considerations into engineering decisions.
- Lead the C&I scope during FEED and detailed engineering phases, including man-hour estimation, scheduling, and progress monitoring.
- Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, and Piping teams to deliver integrated engineering packages.
- Interface with clients, licensors, vendors, and Zeeco’s global offices for technical alignment and clarifications.
- Review vendor documents, conduct Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), and support procurement and vendor qualification.
- Participate in FAT/SAT activities for control systems and panels.
- Support commissioning teams during loop checks, calibration, system integration, and troubleshooting.
- Provide support during Performance Guarantee Tests (PGTR) to ensure contractual compliance.
- Mentor junior engineers and support skill development within the C&I team.
- Standardize engineering templates, procedures, and checklists to improve consistency and quality.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate virtually with global engineering teams and stakeholders across time zones.
- Travel occasionally for FATs, client meetings, design reviews, and site visits.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial or lead engineering role.
- Strong background in heavy engineering, fired equipment, process equipment, Oil & Gas, Refineries, Petrochemicals, or Process Plant Engineering.
- Hands-on experience in FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and Detailed Engineering for complex process units.
- Proven exposure to international codes & standards (API, NFPA, ISA, IEC, ATEX, etc.).
- Minimum 5 years of field experience in commissioning, site support, or instrumentation for process equipment or VRUs (preferred but not mandatory).
- Experience collaborating on global engineering projects is essential.
