Senior Mortgage Underwriter

Position Summary

US residential mortgage loans

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications for eligibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with underwriting standards.
• Examine all loan data, supporting documentation, reports, and inspections to ensure collateral acceptability.
• Independently assess risk and make decisions on loans based on guidelines from HUD, FNMA, FHLMC, and other investors.
• Provide final underwriting approval for loan types including Conventional, Correspondent, FHA, VA, and Reverse Mortgages.
• Complete and sign off all required paperwork and conditions within management timelines.
• Use Encompass or similar systems to manage underwriting workflows.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to processors, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
• Support escalations and work collaboratively with other departments for resolution.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy, documentation, and customer service throughout the underwriting process.
• Participate in continuous improvement of internal audit practices and underwriting procedures.
• Handle additional duties and projects as assigned by management.
