Job Description

Position Overview: The Chief Barista at Moutan plays a crucial role in maintaining high standards of beverage preparation, service, and operations. We are seeking an experienced and confident individual with a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience in Italian-style coffee preparation , ideally complemented by cocktail-making and kitchen experience . This role blends technical bar skills with team leadership and a strong service mindset. Requirements: Minimum 3 years of experience in a busy café or food service environment is mandatory . At least 2 years’ experience working with Italian-style coffee and espresso machines is mandatory . Solid knowledge of coffee extraction, milk steaming, and latte art basics. Cocktail or mixology background is a strong advantage. Previous kitchen or food handling experience is preferred. Good leadership, communication, inventory management and organisational skills. Flexible availability including weekends and holidays. Key Responsibilities: Beverage & Service Operations · Prepare coffee and tea beverages to the highest quality standards, including Italian-style espresso, cappuccino, latte, and other specialty coffee drinks . · Follow precise company recipes and presentation standards for bubble tea, fruit drinks, and seasonal specials. · Ensure product consistency in flavour, temperature, portion, and visual presentation. · Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the bar area and equipment. · Support the management of bar inventory, stock rotation, and waste reduction. Kitchen Support · Assist in food and drink assembly including mochi prep, toast finishing, or plating as needed. · Follow hygiene, allergy, and safety protocols in the kitchen area. Customer Service · Deliver warm, professional, and informative customer service. · Offer drink recommendations and communicate ingredient knowledge confidently. · Handle customer feedback and escalate issues when appropriate. · Promote up-selling and contribute to sales targets through service excellence. Team Supervision · Support the training and coaching of junior baristas. · Take lead during shifts when assigned, ensuring smooth operations and teamwork. · Maintain a disciplined, respectful, and positive working environment. Reporting & Administration · Complete daily reports including cleaning checklists, stock usage, inventory, wastage, and handovers. · Inform management of any staff, inventory, or equipment issues.
