Job Description

Role: RQF Costing Engineer – Machining Components

Responsible for estimating machining costs, optimizing manufacturing processes, and supporting supplier development.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 5–10 years of experience in machining cost estimation, manufacturing engineering, or related functions
  • Experience in supplier development and RFQ handling preferred
  • Exposure to international machining standards and best practices will be an added advantage

Position Overview

The RQF (Request for Quotation) Costing Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for machined components, supporting new product development, supplier negotiations, and customer quotations. This role requires strong expertise in CNC machining processes, tooling, cycle time calculation, and cost modeling to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze RFQs (Requests for Quotation) for machined components and assemblies.
  • Review technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications to determine machining feasibility.
  • Develop detailed cost breakdowns including raw material, machining cycle times, tooling, labor, overheads, and logistics.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and procurement teams to validate cost assumptions.
  • Benchmark supplier quotations and provide cost variance analysis.
  • Support make-or-buy decisions by comparing in-house machining vs. supplier costs.
  • Prepare cost models and maintain databases for machining processes (turning, milling, grinding, etc.).
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities through process optimization, tooling selection, and alternative manufacturing methods.
  • Present cost analysis and recommendations to management and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, quality requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Required Skills & Competencies

    • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, grinding).
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.
    • Expertise in cycle time calculation, tooling selection, and process routing.
    • Proficiency in cost estimation tools, ERP systems, and MS Excel.
    • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and customer interaction.
    • Knowledge of materials (steel, aluminum, castings, forgings) and their machining behavior.
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and value engineering principles.
