Job Description

Position: Researcher – Gall Punjab Di

Young Hopes of India Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that empowers youth to become active participants in nation-building through education, entrepreneurship, and civic leadership. Our initiatives bring together educators, professionals, and policymakers to create sustainable social impact across India.

About Gall Punjab Di (GPD)

Gall Punjab Di is envisioned as a people’s movement — a constructive, citizen-led platform to rebuild Punjab’s moral and social strength through dialogue and collective service. The initiative focuses on 17 key challenges shaping the state — from unemployment, drug abuse, and migration to education, environment, and governance — through community dialogue circles, research, and citizen-led action projects across all 23 districts of Punjab.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Researcher who can combine curiosity, analytical thinking, and empathy to help document the pulse of Punjab.

This role is about more than data — it’s about understanding people, stories, and systems. You’ll work with the GPD core team, volunteers, and community leaders to collect insights, interpret patterns, and produce actionable knowledge that can guide real social change.

The work will include desk research, field engagement, stakeholder mapping, and report writing, all aimed at creating a factual, people-centered understanding of Punjab’s current challenges and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Research and Data Collection

  • Conduct primary and secondary research on Punjab’s social, economic, and cultural landscape.
  • Gather data through surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observation.
  • Analyze historical and current trends across GPD’s 17 focus areas (youth, agriculture, gender, governance, environment, etc.).

2. Analysis and Knowledge Development

  • Translate complex data into clear, evidence-based insights for policy and community dialogue.
  • Prepare research briefs, concept notes, and thematic reports to inform GPD strategy.
  • Support the design of indicators to measure progress and impact of dialogue circles and local projects.

3. Collaboration and Coordination

  • Work closely with universities, think tanks, NGOs, and government departments for data validation and partnership building.
  • Engage with field volunteers to document local stories, best practices, and emerging issues.
  • Contribute to the development of a digital knowledge repository on Punjab’s development indicators.

4. Communication and Outreach

  • Present findings through infographics, presentations, and short publications.
  • Support awareness campaigns by translating research insights into accessible narratives for digital and print media.
  • Participate in dialogue sessions and community events to bridge academic research with grassroots voices.

Preferred Background and Skills

  • Demonstrated experience (academic, NGO, or government) in research, data analysis, or field documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in Punjab, Hindi and English
  • Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and synthesize large volumes of information.
  • Familiarity with tools such as MS Excel, Google Sheets, or qualitative data analysis software.
  • Deep interest in Punjab’s development and a genuine commitment to civic renewal.
  • Proficient in Punjabi, Hindi and English Language.

What You’ll Gain

  • Be part of a statewide citizen movement grounded in service, dialogue, and reform.
  • Learn from social researchers, academicians, and field practitioners working at the intersection of culture and development.
  • Opportunity to design and publish your own research outputs under YHIF and GPD platforms.
  • Field exposure in diverse communities — rural, semi-urban, and institutional — across Punjab.
  • A meaningful chance to turn research into action and contribute to the revival of Punjab’s spirit of Sarbat da Bhalla.
