About The Role
Swiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of risk transfer. You will join the Swiss Re Institute; a global team of insurance market and economic researchers responsible for analyzing how industry developments and the economic environment interact to impact risk transfer. Your analysis will be communicated internally and externally through reports like the flagship
sigma publications available on Swiss Re’s website. We are a global team located in Zurich, New York, Bratislava, Hong Kong and Beijing.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities Include
- Author and contribute to Swiss Re Institute's thought leadership. This involves identifying purpose driven messages, framing relevant questions and locating appropriate datasets.
- Collect, curate and analyze large data sets to support research projects and form well-reasoned, evidence-based conclusions.
- The goal is to write carefully argued position papers/briefings/reports extending to 10-30 pages (e.g. Swiss Re's sigma, Expertise Publications), that are disseminated to clients.
- This involves situational awareness of global events, policy actions, and capital flows to anticipate implications for risk transfer.
- It also involves applying statistics, machine learning and analytic approaches to support data-driven research (knowledge of Python, R, Stata, Matlab and GenAI frameworks).
- All projects involve preparing high-quality PowerPoint slides and presenting findings to stakeholders (e.g. a market outlook to clients, briefing materials for senior executives, etc.).
About The Team
Swiss Re Institute – we originate actionable insights to support profitable risk taking by providing input for internal planning and business steering, by creating business-focused research, and by positioning SRI and Swiss Re with external stakeholders.We are a diverse set of around 60 colleagues working in teams across various locations. Swiss Re Institute is highly visible and interacts with a wide variety of key partners and decision makers across the organization and externally. We are a truly global team located in Zurich, Bratislava, New York, Bangalore, Hong Kong and Beijing and collaborate closely with all of Swiss Re's re/insurance business units and Group functions.
About You
- An advanced degree from a top-tier economic/research institution. Preferred backgrounds include economics, econometrics, other related disciplines or interdisciplinary research.
- You have 3-5 years of data-driven research experience in a relevant setting such as strategy consulting, advisory services, think tanks, or advocacy research.
- You have written data-backed high-quality publications concisely and insightfully in a deadline-driven environment, eg, technical reports, journal submissions, and conference presentations.
- You are an avid reader with a strong foundation in global markets and macroeconomic dynamics, with deep curiosity about secular themes such as deglobalization, demographics, and AI.
- You are content-focused, with strong attention to detail and can ensure factual accuracy by diligently checking data and information before publication.
- Experience in the insurance industry, and industry certifications would be an added advantage.
- You love working with data in Microsoft Excel but also with databases and statistical software.
