Job Description

A quantity surveyor (civil) will be responsible for cost estimation, budgeting, and financial management of construction projects, ensuring value for money while meeting legal and quality standards. Core ResponsibilitiesEstimating quantities, costs, and time scales for materials and labor throughout the life of a project. Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and contract terms. Managing budgets, tracking design changes, and overseeing payments to subcontractors. Advising on commercial risks, procurement strategies, and cost-saving opportunities. Ensuring compliance with building regulations, health, and safety standards. Typical DutiesLiaising with clients to identify project requirements and reviewing building plans. Performing feasibility studies and cost analysis for new and existing projects. Measuring and valuing work done on-site and preparing regular financial progress reports. Negotiating with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure the best deals. Documenting changes in design and updating budgets accordingly. Skills and QualificationsStrong analytical and numeracy skills for cost calculations. Detailed knowledge of construction processes, materials, contracts, and regulations. Excellent negotiating, communication, and project management abilities. Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field; additional certifications are advantageous.
