1. Role Overview
The Quality Inspector is responsible for conducting physical inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished rollers to ensure compliance with defined quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements. This role ensures measurement accuracy, proper documentation, and consistency in manufacturing output while supporting continuous improvement within the MSME environment.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Quality Control & Inspection
Conduct physical inspection of incoming raw materials, machined components, assembled rollers, and finished goods.
Perform inline inspection, final inspection, and random sampling as required.
Verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface quality using calibrated instruments (micrometre, vernier calliper, bore gauge/“borgage”, height gauge, dial indicators, etc.).
Inspect roller hardness, runout, surface finish, concentricity, and alignment where applicable.
Identify non-conformities, deviations, and defects, and report immediately to the Quality Manager.
B. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCR), deviation notes, and rejection summaries.
Record inspection results in internal quality control formats (physical or digital).
Maintain traceability records for components and finished rollers (heat number, batch number, supplier details, inspection codes, etc.).
Support data entry of measurement values for historical reporting and analysis.
C. Process & Compliance
Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, and internal SOPs.
Monitor and follow up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support calibration and safe handling of quality instruments and gauges.
Assist in internal audits and ISO-related documentation as required.
Promote good housekeeping (5S) and safe work practices.
3. Required Technical Skills
Strong ability to take accurate measurements using:
Micrometer (inside & outside)
Vernier Caliper
Bore Gauge / Borgage (ability to read and interpret measurements)
Dial Gauge
Height Gauge
Surface Roughness Gauge (optional but preferred)
Knowledge of reading engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, tolerances, and specifications.
Basic understanding of machining processes (turning, grinding, hard chroming, knurling—depending on your company).
Knowledge of material types used in rollers (mild steel, alloy steel, rubber compound, etc.).
Understanding of quality control methodologies: sampling, defect identification, root cause analysis.

7. Qualifications & Experience
Education: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing / Tool & Die / Any relevant field.
Experience:
4-5 years of experience in quality inspection (preferably in machining or roller manufacturing).
ITI candidates with strong measurement skills may also be considered.
8. Work Environment
Shop-floor based role with physical activity and handling of measuring tools.
Requires adherence to PPE and safety protocols.
May require shift-based work depending on production load.
