Key Responsibilities
1. QMS Leadership & Standards Compliance (ISO & IATF)
- Establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve the QMS in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external certification bodies, customers, and regulatory agencies during audits and site visits.
- Ensure that QMS processes deliver their intended outputs and report on the performance of the QMS and opportunities for improvement to top management (e.g., during Management Review Meetings).
- Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization, ensuring the "Voice of the Customer" is paramount in decision-making.
2. Automotive Core Tools & Process Control
- Lead the cross-functional implementation of Automotive Core Tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA), MSA, and SPC.
- Manage the complete PPAP submission process for automotive customers, ensuring all brass components meet specific dimensional, material, and performance criteria.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of Control Plans and Process Flow Diagrams specific to brass forging, casting, and machining operations.
- Champion the use of statistical techniques (SPC) to monitor process capabilities on critical brass component dimensions.
3. Brass Industry Specific Quality Assurance
- Oversee incoming inspection protocols for raw materials (e.g., brass rods, ingots), ensuring compliance with metallurgical standards (e.g., CW614N, C36000) and RoHS/REACH requirements.
- Develop specific quality criteria for common brass defects, such as porosity in castings, forging laps, machining burrs, and plating peeling.
- Implement in-process quality checks tailored to high-precision CNC turning and milling centers.
4. Auditing, Corrective Action & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and manage the annual Internal Audit program (system, process, and product audits) utilizing IATF-qualified internal auditors.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives using disciplined methods (e.g., 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone) to address internal non-conformances and customer complaints (field failures/returns).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Six Sigma methodology) to reduce scrap rates related to brass processing and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Manage the Calibration program for all critical measurement tools used in the brass manufacturing environment (e.g., micrometers, thread gauges, spectrometers).
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7–10 years of working experience in Quality Assurance within a manufacturing environment.
- Mandatory: At least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing IATF 16949 in the automotive supply chain (Tier 1 or Tier 2).
- Strongly Preferred: Direct experience in the brass or non-ferrous metal industry, involving machining, forging, or foundry operations.
Certifications:
- Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2015 (Mandatory).
- Certified Internal or Lead Auditor for IATF 16949:2016 (Highly Preferred; must be willing to obtain immediately if not current).
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Expert-level Knowledge of Core Tools: demonstrated practical application of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA. Don’t just know the acronyms; know how to use them to fix problems.
- Metallurgical Aptitude: Understanding the properties of brass alloys and how heat treatment, forging, and machining affect the final product quality.
- Blueprint Reading: Advanced ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Leadership: Ability to influence senior management and drive change on the shop floor without direct authority over production staff.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of handling high-pressure automotive customer interactions professionally.
