Job Profile: QA Manager – Consumer Apps (Android, iOS) and Web
Location: Bangalore | Karnataka
Years of Experience: 8 - 10 years
About The Team & Role
We are seeking an experienced QA Manager to lead quality for our consumer applications across Android, iOS, and Web. This role is cross-functional, hands-on, and process-driven, with a strong focus on release management, automation at scale, quality governance, and collaboration with product, engineering, and program teams.
What will you get to do here?
Quality Strategy & Leadership
- Own the end-to-end QA strategy for Android, iOS, and Web, aligning with product goals and engineering roadmaps.
- Define test approaches for features, experiments, platform changes, and migrations; ensure comprehensive coverage across functional and non-functional areas.
- Establish and evolve quality standards, checklists, and knowledge bases that scale with the team and product.
Release Management & Sign‑off
- Lead release readiness and sign-off for mobile and web releases across alpha/beta/production channels.
- Partner with engineering, product, and program/release leads on go/no-go decisions; communicate risks, blockers, and mitigations.
- Run bug bashes, ensure critical defects are triaged and fixed, and maintain consistent release checklists.
- Drive robust post-release monitoring and root-cause analysis (RCA) for production incidents.
Test Planning & Execution
- Oversee functional, integration, regression, UX, and accessibility testing for mobile and web.
- Ensure coverage for mobile-specific scenarios: network variation, OS version/device fragmentation, permissions, dark mode, background/foreground lifecycles, and install/upgrade flows.
- Ensure coverage for web-specific scenarios: cross-browser, responsive layouts, progressive enhancement, and web performance.
Automation & Tooling
- Define and scale automation frameworks for mobile (e.g., Appium, Espresso, XCUITest) and web (e.g., Selenium/WebDriver, Cypress, Playwright).
- Integrate automation into CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Bitrise) with fast and reliable quality gates.
- Leverage device labs/real-device clouds and virtualized environments for breadth and depth of coverage.
- Implement observability and analytics-driven testing using crash, performance, and user behavior signals; set up dashboards and alerts for release and app health.
- Explore/lead GenAI-driven QA initiatives that improve test authoring, maintenance, and coverage.
Quality
Governance & Metrics
- Define and track KPIs: defect leakage, automation ROI, release success rate, regression cycle time, crash-free and ANR rates, performance budgets, and stability SLAs.
- Run data-driven triage; partner with engineering on systemic fixes and quality debt reduction.
- Champion shift-left practices, including early involvement in design and architecture discussions, and embedding quality gates in the SDLC.
People Leadership
- Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of SDETs and QA engineers (manual and automation).
- Drive resource planning, prioritization, and career growth; foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Represent QA in technical reviews and cross-team forums; ensure quality priorities and risks are visible and addressed.
- Partner closely with product, design, engineering, data, and customer support to align on quality outcomes and feedback loops.
Non-Functional Quality
- Own strategies for performance, stability/reliability, security, accessibility, localization, and compliance testing across platforms.
What qualities are we looking for?
- 8+ years in software testing/QA with 3+ years leading QA teams for consumer-scale mobile and web applications.
- Deep understanding of Android & iOS ecosystems (app lifecycle, build pipelines, release workflows, store processes) and modern web (browser engines, responsive design, performance).
- Hands-on expertise with mobile automation (Appium, Espresso, XCUITest) and web automation (Selenium/WebDriver, Cypress, Playwright).
- Strong experience with CI/CD and build systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Bitrise) and artifact management.
- Solid understanding of API testing and service integrations (e.g., Postman, REST Assured), mocking, and contract testing.
- Experience with observability and crash/performance tooling; able to drive analytics-informed test strategies.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills in fast-paced environments.
Nice to Have
- Experience operating at millions of MAUs and rapid release cadences (weekly/bi-weekly or faster).
- Expertise in performance testing (startup time, rendering, memory, network) and accessibility standards.
- Experience with feature flags and A/B experiment QA.
- Exposure to security testing and privacy/compliance considerations for consumer apps.
- Experience setting up mobile device labs and optimizing test execution at scale.
- Hands-on with GenAI tools for test generation, flakiness reduction, and maintenance.
What Success Looks Like (30/60/90)
- 30 days: Assess quality baselines, refine release checklists, and align on KPIs and reporting cadences.
- 60 days: Uplevel test plans and automation coverage for priority areas; implement quality gates in CI/CD; reduce defect leakage/regression time.
- 90 days: Demonstrate improved release stability and time-to-signoff; establish dashboards for app health; mature QA governance and incident RCAs.
Why This Role
- High ownership to influence quality at scale across mobile and web.
- Opportunity to build and lead strong QA teams and practices.
- Work on complex engineering challenges with meaningful user impact.
