Job Description

Job Purpose

The Purchase Manager will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of raw materials, consumables, spares, and services required for sponge iron (ispat) plant operations, ensuring cost efficiency, timely availability, and compliance with quality and statutory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement of raw materials, including iron ore, coal, dolomite, limestone, refractories, ferro alloys, and consumables.
  • Develop, evaluate, and maintain strong vendor relationships; identify and onboard new suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, delivery schedules, and payment conditions to optimize costs.
  • Ensure timely processing of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts as per production requirements.
  • Coordinate with production, stores, logistics, and finance teams to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain optimum stock to avoid shortages or excess.
  • Track market trends, price movements, and availability of sponge iron raw materials.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, audit requirements, and statutory regulations.
  • Prepare MIS reports related to procurement costs, vendor performance, lead time, and savings.
  • Coordinate logistics and transporters for timely inward movement of materials.
  • Handle vendor performance evaluation, dispute resolution, and compliance issues.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental norms.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (MBA in Materials / Operations preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 8–12 years of experience in purchase/procurement within the sponge iron/steel / ispat industry.
  • Strong knowledge of raw material sourcing specific to iron & steel plants.
  • Proficiency in ERP / SAP, MS Excel, and reporting tools.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

Compensation

Salary up to 55,000 per month, based on qualifications, experience, and interview performance.
