About The Opportunity
Business Unit Energy & Power
The primary responsibilities of 
Protection Engineer- Digital substations
 would be
Design and Engineering
- Develop protection and control schemes for digital substations using IEC 61850.
- Prepare single-line diagrams, protection logic, and functional specifications.
- Design and configure substation LAN architecture including PRP/HSR redundancy.
- Relay Setting calculation for various protection schemes is desirable
 
IED Configuration & Integration
- Configure Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) from vendors like Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, etc.
- Implement GOOSE messaging, MMS, and Sampled Values as per IEC 61850.
- Perform system integration and interoperability testing of multi-vendor IEDs.
 
Networking & Cybersecurity
- Design and validate Ethernet-based communication networks for substations.
- Ensure secure communication protocols and compliance with cybersecurity standards (e.g., NERC CIP, IEC 62351).
- Troubleshoot network issues using tools like Wireshark, NetScout, etc.
 
Construction support
- Develop FAT/SAT procedures for digital substations.
- Use simulation and testing tools (e.g., Omicron CMC, Doble) for protection relay testing.
- Validate IEC 61850 configurations using engineering tools like IET600, PCM600, DIGSI, etc.
 
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain detailed engineering documentation including SCD, ICD, CID files.
- Ensure compliance with utility standards, IEEE, IEC, and local grid codes.
- Contribute to the development of internal standards and best practices.

- Report to & work with

Here's what you'll need
About You
- BE/B Tech/ME/M Tech Electrical
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in protection engineering and digital substation design.
- Strong knowledge of IEC 61850, substation automation, and protection systems.
- Experience with IED configuration tools and network design.
- Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, and gateway integration.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
 
Preferred Skill Sets
- Certification in IEC 61850 or substation automation.
- Experience with digital twin or model-based engineering tools.
- Knowledge of time synchronization protocols (IEEE 1588/PTP).
- Exposure to cloud-based substation monitoring or asset management platforms.
- Strong understanding of International standards, respective country Grid codes and able to interpret the requirements.
- Excellent Technical Report writing skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate a clear technical direction.
- Hands on experience in operating design software’s like AutoCAD, DIGSI 5, PCM600, Ener vista, MicroStation. Experience of Python programming and ETAP is preferred.
- Presenting well to clients (internal and external) and having good social and networking skills
- Capacity to work within teams to solve technical problems and achieve a high level of assurance on project deliverables.
