About the Role

We are an industrial automation & control panel manufacturer serving process industries in India and overseas. We design and supply MCC/PCC, PLC/DCS/Safety system panels, marshalling/junction boxes and complete automation solutions.

We are looking for an experienced Proposal Manager who can standardise and speed up our proposal process, guide our proposal team, and ensure that every techno-commercial offer is technically correct, commercially sound and compliant with UL, CE and export region–specific standards, including safe and hazardous area requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Proposal Strategy & Standardisation

  • Own the end-to-end proposal process for electrical & automation projects (RFQ to final submission).
  • Standardise proposals by creating and maintaining:
  • Standard BOQ templates
  • Costing norms and checklists
  • Standard technical offer and commercial offer formats
  • Typical scope, inclusions/exclusions and assumptions
  • Continuously work to reduce turnaround time for proposals while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
  • Implement version control, naming conventions and documentation discipline for all proposals.

2. Team Guidance & Review

  • Lead and mentor a proposal / estimation team (proposal engineers / executives).
  • Allocate RFQs and monitor progress to ensure on-time submissions.
  • Review and guide team members on:
  • Technical sizing and selection
  • Compliance to standards and customer specs
  • Pricing logic, margins and commercial terms
  • Conduct final review of all major techno-commercial offers before submission.

3. Technical & Standards Expertise

  • Interpret customer RFQs, datasheets, SLDs, I/O lists, cause & effect, cable schedules and specifications.
  • Ensure proposals comply with:
  • UL standards (e.g. UL508A, UL698A/UL698B, UL 121201, UL 845, etc. as applicable)
  • CE / IEC standards (e.g. IEC 61439 for LV switchgear, relevant EN/IEC standards)
  • Export region–specific approvals (e.g. ATEX, IECEx, NEC/CEC where required).
  • Differentiate and apply requirements for safe area vs hazardous area instrumentation and control panels:
  • Knowledge of Zone / Division classification
  • Ex-protection concepts (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, etc.)
  • Selection of field devices, enclosures, cable glands, barriers/isolators.
  • Provide guidance on earthing, protection coordination, short-circuit ratings, temperature rise, IP/NEMA ratings, etc.

4. Electrical & Automation Solutioning

  • Work with design & application teams to define:
  • MCC/PCC architecture, busbar sizing, feeder configurations
  • PLC/DCS/Safety system architectures (CPU/Redundancy, I/O distribution, networking, SCADA/HMI, historian).
  • Understand and propose solutions for:
  • PLC, SCADA, DCS and Safety PLC (SIS) systems
  • VFD/soft starters and motor control schemes
  • Instrumentation signals (AI/AO/DI/DO) and field instrumentation scope.
  • Validate that proposed solutions are practically implementable, optimised for cost vs reliability and aligned with the customer’s specifications and standards.

5. Customer & OEM Coordination

  • Work closely with sales engineers during pre-bid and post-bid discussions, technical clarifications and negotiations.
  • Liaise with OEMs and distributors (automation, switchgear, hazardous area equipment) to obtain technical support, budgetary prices and final quotes.
  • Participate in review meetings with customers/consultants/EPCs to clarify technical and commercial aspects of offers.

6. Commercial & Win-Loss Analysis

  • Build and maintain structured cost sheets for material, engineering, FAT/SAT, site services and contingency.
  • Review commercial terms: payment terms, delivery, LD, warranty, performance guarantees, insurance, taxes/duties, etc.
  • Track win/loss ratios, analyse reasons for loss and recommend corrective actions in pricing, positioning and proposal strategy.
