Job Description – Production Supervisor (Metal Fabrication – Steel Furniture)

Role Overview
The Production Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and managing shop-floor operations in the steel furniture fabrication unit. The role includes planning, scheduling, and overseeing the use of advanced fabrication machines (laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, presses, etc.), managing manpower, ensuring production targets, and maintaining quality and safety standards. The supervisor will act as the link between management and the production workforce.
Key Responsibilities:-
1. Production Planning & Control
Plan daily and weekly production schedules based on work orders and customer commitments.
Allocate machine time for sheet laser, pipe laser, CNC bending, welding, and other fabrication equipment.
Ensure smooth workflow between cutting, bending, drilling, welding, grinding, and finishing stages.
2. Shop Floor Supervision
Lead and manage operators, welders, helpers, and technicians on the shop floor.
Assign daily tasks and monitor progress against targets.
Ensure machines are operated as per SOPs and production quality standards.
3. Machine & Process Handling
Oversee the operation of fabrication machines including:
Sheet & Pipe Laser Machines – cutting and profiling.
CNC Sheet Bending Machine – precision bending of furniture components.
Bench Drill & Power Press – drilling and stamping operations.
Spot Welding & CO₂ Welding – assembly of furniture parts.
Aluminium Cutting & Grinding Machines – finishing and shaping.
Support troubleshooting and coordinate with maintenance team for breakdowns.
Optimize machine utilization to reduce idle time and improve productivity.
4. Manpower Planning & Training
Prepare daily manpower allocation for machines, welding stations, and finishing sections.
Train new operators/welders on safe operation and fabrication techniques.
Ensure skill mapping and effective deployment of workforce.
5. Quality & Safety Compliance
Ensure adherence to quality standards for steel furniture fabrication.
Minimize rework, scrap, and welding defects.
Implement and enforce safety practices including PPE usage and safe material handling.
Maintain housekeeping (5S) and safety audits on the shop floor.
6. Coordination & Reporting
Work closely with Design/Engineering team for technical drawings and accuracy of fabrication.
Coordinate with Sales & Dispatch teams for delivery timelines.
Maintain daily production logs, downtime reports, rejection analysis, and manpower utilization sheets.
7. Continuous Improvement
Identify areas to improve machine efficiency, reduce cycle times, and optimize raw material usage.
Suggest process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
Support lean manufacturing and Kaizen activities.
