Purpose of the Role
The Procurement Data & Analytics Lead will play a critical role in enabling Procurement Operations and Excellence, reporting directly to the Head of Procurement Operations and Excellence. This role will focus on building procurement-specific insights that unlock greater value from Springer Nature’s third-party spend and supplier ecosystem.By applying advanced analytics to core procurement processes, including sourcing, supplier management, contract lifecycle, requisition-to-pay, and compliance, this role will deliver fact-based decision-making to support category strategies, supplier performance management, and operational excellence.The successful candidate will translate complex procurement data into actionable insights that enable stakeholders to drive cost savings, manage risk, ensure compliance, and strengthen supplier partnerships.
Responsibilities
Strategic Goal
- Drive and execute the global procurement data and analytics strategy by leveraging Springer Nature’s source-to-contract technologies. The aim is to deliver a comprehensive reporting suite that provides a holistic view of third-party spend, enabling data-driven decisions that support both Procurement and broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Procurement Data Strategy: Design and maintain a scalable procurement analytics ecosystem that consolidates spend data, supplier performance metrics, contract compliance, and category insights.
- Champion Procurement Analytics: Deliver reporting and dashboards that provide procurement with visibility of savings delivery, sourcing pipeline, supplier risk, and compliance tracking.
- Lead Advanced Analytics for Procurement: Partner with category managers, sourcing leads, and supplier management teams to develop insights that shape sourcing strategies, category plans, and supplier negotiations.
- Measure and Report Procurement KPIs: Define and monitor metrics such as realised savings, sourcing pipeline execution, supplier performance scorecards, contract utilisation, and tail-spend optimisation.
- Support Procurement Transformation: Use data insights to enable supplier innovation, strengthen supplier diversity initiatives, and drive value delivery across categories and regions.
- Deliver Actionable Insights to Procurement Leadership: Provide fact-based recommendations that support strategic sourcing decisions, supplier risk mitigation, and multi-year category planning.
Experience
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience in procurement analytics with deep knowledge of procurement processes (Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Lifecycle, Supplier Risk & Performance Management, Requisition-to-Pay).
- Track record of leading procurement transformation initiatives enabled by data and technology.
- Strong background in spend analytics, supplier dashboards, savings tracking, and compliance reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to translate procurement data into actionable strategies for cost optimisation, supplier management, and risk mitigation.
Skills
- Strong analytical skills applied specifically to procurement and supplier data.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience influencing category managers, sourcing leads, and procurement leadership. Senior Executive Level presence is required.
- Proficiency with procurement systems (e.g. SAP Ariba, Coupa, Ivalua, Fairmarkit, etc.) and advanced Excel/Power BI/Tableau.
- Ability to balance strategic procurement insights with hands-on data delivery.
- Self-driven, results oriented, and motivated to work effectively.
- Strong project management and matrix team leadership skills
- Appetite and aptitude for collaborating with cross functional teams in a complex, changing environment to deliver value to the organisation.
