Position Title: Senior Pipeline Designer

Job Location: Ranchi

Reports To: Discipline Lead / Senior Pipeline Engineer / Project Manager

Role Summary

The Senior Pipeline Designer leads and executes pipeline design activities across all

engineering phases (Concept, FEED, Detail Engineering) for onshore/offshore oil & amp; gas

projects. The role ensures high-quality design deliverables, compliance with engineering

standards and codes, mentoring of junior staff, and coordination across multiple disciplines

to meet project requirements and schedule. The Senior Pipeline Designer also provides

technical leadership, supports constructability and safety reviews, and ensures deliverables

meet client and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

 Independently perform full pipeline design scope: develop route plans, alignment

sheets, pipeline layouts, isometrics, GA drawings, tie-ins, crossings (roads, rail, water

bodies), valve/hot-tap layouts, risers, and other pipeline-related drawings/documents.

 Conduct detailed material take-offs (MTO), bill of materials (BOM), and prepare

specifications for pipes, fittings, valves, supports, coatings, insulation, etc.

 Review and validate vendor drawings, material datasheets, equipment specifications,

and ensure compatibility with pipeline design requirements.

 Ensure compliance of design with relevant industry codes/standards (e.g. ASME

B31.8, API standards, client standards, project specifications) and implement safety,

environmental, and regulatory requirements.

 Perform clash checks, design reviews, drawing QA/QC, and ensure deliverable

quality and consistency.

 Mentor and guide junior designers/drafters: review their work, provide technical

support, coach on design standards and best practices, enforce document control

procedures.

 Support project planning and scheduling: manage design deliverables, track

progress, coordinate with procurement, construction, and project management

teams.

 Provide support for on-site/field execution: site visits, data collection, as-built

documentation, construction support, field verification and resolution of technical/site

queries.

 Contribute to continuous improvement: update and maintain design standards,

procedures, company-specific guidelines, document lessons learned and best

practices.


Experience, Qualifications & Skills

 Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Petroleum / Pipeline

Engineering or related discipline.

 Significant experience (typically 10+ years; depending on complexity and scope of

projects) in pipeline design for oil & gas (onshore and/or offshore), including FEED

and Detail Engineering phases.

 Strong proficiency in CAD / 3D modelling software (e.g. AutoCAD, Plant 3D, PDMS,

MicroStation, or similar) for pipeline drawing and layout.

 Thorough knowledge of industry codes and standards relevant to pipeline design

(e.g. ASME B31.8, API, ISO, client-specific codes), and demonstrated ability to apply

and enforce them.

 Excellent project coordination, communication and leadership skills; ability to

coordinate across disciplines, manage workload, deliver on time and mentor junior

staff.

 Quality assurance mindset: ensure accuracy, consistency, document control, and

compliance with standards, safety and client requirements.

Working Conditions & Environment

 Project-based environment: working in multi-disciplinary project teams (process,

mechanical, civil/structural, instrumentation, safety, procurement, construction).

 Office-based design work with frequent coordination meetings, design reviews, and

documentation management.

 Periodic field visits for site survey, as-built verification, construction support, quality

assurance, vendor/contractor coordination.

 Responsibility for timely deliverables, document control, quality assurance, and

adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

 Leadership role: mentoring junior designers/drafters, reviewing design deliverables,

and ensuring compliance with company and client standards.
