Job Summary:

The Cost Optimization & Project Management Specialist is responsible for analyzing Bills of Materials (BoM), identifying cost reduction opportunities, and driving cost-out initiatives across engineering and supply chain functions. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, effective cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple cost optimization projects from initiation through completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in alignment with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and compare BoMs to identify potential cost-out opportunities.
  • Identify high-cost BoM parts and seek lower-cost alternatives without compromising quality or performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive cost analysis to highlight potential savings areas.
  • Develop and implement cost-reduction initiatives aligned with project scope and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams to identify and validate cost optimization opportunities.
  • Support shop and supply chain teams in implementing cost-out projects and ensure timely execution and realization of savings.
  • Monitor and report weekly progress of all cost-out projects, including cost savings, timelines, and quality metrics.
  • Track project performance against defined targets for cost, schedule, and quality, and report results to leadership.
  • Manage cross-functional programs or projects from initiation to delivery, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental coordination and communication to ensure smooth execution of project deliverables.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cost reduction, value engineering, or project management roles.
  • Strong understanding of BoM structures and cost analysis methodologies.
  • Experience in the

    locomotive industry

    preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment required.
  • Proficient in data analysis, cost modeling, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • PMP or similar project management certification is an advantage.
