Job Description

Position Title: Obsolescence Engineer – Hardware Electronics Location: Gurgaon Experience Required: 5+ Years Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field Industry: R&D and Manufacturing of state-of-the-art avionics-grade, defense-grade, and railway-grade equipment Position Summary The Obsolescence Engineer is responsible for proactively managing the lifecycle of electronic components used in hardware products, ensuring sustainability and long-term support for both new and legacy systems. This role is critical to minimizing risks associated with component obsolescence, working cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, and supply chain teams. Key Responsibilities Monitor the lifecycle status of electronic components (ICs, semiconductors, PCBs, etc.) using internal databases and industry tools. Assist in evaluating and finalizing tools such as IHS Markit, SiliconExpert, etc., for obsolescence tracking. Assess obsolescence risk across current and legacy hardware platforms. Collaborate with design teams to recommend alternate parts, redesigns, or last-time-buy strategies. Maintain updated databases with lifecycle data, RoHS/REACH compliance, and critical part tracking. Work with suppliers and procurement to confirm EOL dates, lead times, and replacement options. Develop and execute obsolescence management strategies aligned with product lifecycle plans and customer obligations. Generate risk assessment reports and mitigation plans for internal and external stakeholders. Support change management processes for component replacements or upgrades. Participate in design reviews to reduce future obsolescence risk by selecting sustainable components. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and client supportability expectations (especially in defense, aerospace, and railway sectors). Technical Skills and Competencies Experience in high-speed board-level design for defense/avionics/railway-grade products using FPGAs, ASICs, CPLDs, PowerPC processors, and high-speed memory interfaces. Proficiency with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol-specific analyzers/generators. Strong skills in hardware analysis, troubleshooting, validation, and documentation. Familiarity with component lifecycle management tools and BOM analysis software. Understanding of sourcing challenges, supply chain risks, and regulatory compliance (RoHS, REACH). Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of experience in electronics hardware design, component engineering, or obsolescence management. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments. Experience working with SAP is preferred. Personal Attributes Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Comfortable working in cross-functional, engineering-focused teams.
