Position Overview

Firebird Institute of Research in Management is seeking a skilled Network Administrator to manage and maintain the institute’s IT infrastructure consisting of approximately 150 computer systems, multiple Wi-Fi access points, servers, and allied network devices. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of hardware, software, operating systems, and network security, along with the ability to ensure high system availability and smooth IT operations across the campus.

Key Responsibilities

Network Management

· Monitor, manage, and optimize the campus-wide LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi networks, ensuring stable connectivity for students, faculty, and staff.

· Configure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.

· Implement and manage network security protocols, VPN access, and traffic control policies.

· Troubleshoot network issues and maintain low downtime with proactive maintenance.

System Administration

· Manage and support Windows, Linux, and MacOS operating systems.

· Install, configure, and update operating systems, software applications, and system utilities.

· Maintain domain controller, Active Directory, user accounts, and permission policies.

· Manage data backups, restore processes, and system integrity.

Hardware & Software Support

· Diagnose and repair desktop, laptop, printer, and peripheral hardware issues.

· Conduct routine preventive maintenance of IT equipment.

· Ensure software licensing compliance and maintain accurate software inventories.

· Provide technical support for classroom technologies, projectors, smart boards, and digital labs.

Security & Compliance

· Ensure network and system security through antivirus, patches, updates, and monitoring tools.

· Monitor and prevent unauthorized access, data breaches, and security threats.

· Maintain user-level access control and implement IT policies in compliance with institutional standards.

IT Infrastructure Management

· Oversee server performance, storage, backups, UPS systems, and network racks.

· Coordinate with external vendors for procurement, maintenance, and upgrades.

· Prepare and maintain documentation for IT assets, network diagrams, and usage reports.

User Support & Coordination

· Provide on-site support for faculty, students, and administrative departments.

· Train users on best IT practices and troubleshoot technical issues efficiently.

· Support examination labs, online assessments, and digital learning environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

· Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPN).

· Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi management, access point configuration, and campus Wi-Fi troubleshooting.

· Expertise in Windows Server, Linux OS, and Active Directory.

· Proficiency in hardware troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, printers, and network devices.

· Knowledge of firewalls, cybersecurity tools, and basic scripting (PowerShell, Bash preferred).

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or related fields.

· Certifications preferred: CCNA, MCSA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.

· Minimum 2–5 years of experience in network/system administration.

Soft Skills

· Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

· Good communication skills for coordinating across departments.

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Work Environment

· Full-time, on-campus role at Firebird Institute of Research in Management, Coimbatore.

· Requires availability to support urgent IT issues after hours when necessary.
