About the Role

Merchandiser

This role requires strong communication skills, technical understanding of fabrics and garment construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally with design, sampling, and production teams to meet buyer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Buyer Communication & Coordination

  • Act as the primary point of contact for international buyers and buying agencies.
  • Understand buyer requirements, seasonal directions, and technical specifications to develop aligned collections.
  • Prepare and share product updates, sampling status, and production progress reports.
  • Coordinate approvals on fabrics, trims, fits, and pre-production samples.

Product Development & Sampling

  • Manage end-to-end product development for both woven and knitwear categories.
  • Work closely with design and sampling teams to ensure product feasibility, accuracy, and timely execution.
  • Support in preparing tech packs, BOMs, and costing sheets.
  • Follow up with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely development of samples and approvals.

Costing & Order Execution

  • Assist in fabric/trims sourcing and evaluate cost options while maintaining quality standards.
  • Prepare and negotiate costings aligned with buyer targets.
  • Oversee order placement, T&A planning, and ensure production deadlines are met.
  • Monitor order status, quality checks, and shipment timelines.

Trend & Market Awareness

  • Stay informed about global fashion trends, fabrics, and market developments to support design alignment.
  • Collaborate with designers and sourcing teams to suggest commercially viable solutions for buyers.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain buyer correspondence, sampling trackers, costing sheets, and production reports.
  • Coordinate internal meetings to review development and order status updates.

Requirements

  • Degree in Fashion Merchandising, Apparel Production, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of experience as a merchandiser in an export house or buying agency.
  • Strong understanding of both woven and knitwear garment development processes.
  • Hands-on experience in costing, sourcing, and production coordination.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for buyer interactions.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint), and basic understanding of design files (Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage timelines.
