Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented

Mechanical Design Engineer

to join our team in the

transformer manufacturing industry

. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems for power and distribution transformers (up to 765kV), ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and development of mechanical components for power, distribution, and specialty transformers (e.g., dry-type, oil-filled).
  • Create and revise 3D models, 2D drawings, and assembly layouts using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
  • Perform mechanical calculations (e.g., short-circuit withstand, lifting & transportation stress analysis, thermal expansion).
  • Select appropriate materials, components, and insulation systems based on electrical and mechanical requirements.
  • Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate mechanical and electrical systems seamlessly.
  • Design and validate tank, core clamping structures, radiators, conservators, and bushings.
  • Work closely with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), technical documentation, and design specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, FMEA, and other quality assurance processes.
  • Address client feedback, make design modifications, and support customer service with engineering insights.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as IEC, ANSI, IS, and IEEE.
  • Support testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems during prototype and production phases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the transformers industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD Mechanical, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, welding, fabrication, and sheet metal design.
  • Familiarity with transformer components and mechanical design considerations (pressure calculations, gasket sealing, vibration, etc.).
  • Experience with PLM and ERP systems is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of fluid dynamics for oil flow and cooling system design.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools for structural simulations.
  • Knowledge of international transformer standards (e.g., IEC 60076, IEEE C57).
  • Hands-on experience with on-site installation or testing is an added advantage.
