Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer – Special Purpose Machines (SPM) Location: Jigani, Bangalore Department: Engineering Reports To: Engineering Manager / Technical Head Job Type: Full Time Experience: 4–5 years in SPM or Automation Design --- Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team specializing in Special Purpose Machines (SPM). You will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of custom automation machinery tailored to client-specific requirements across industries such as automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing. --- Key Responsibilities: · Design and develop mechanical systems for Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo). · Translate customer requirements and application needs into functional machine concepts. · Prepare detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, Bill of Materials (BOM), and assembly documentation. · Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, controls, and manufacturing) to ensure end-to-end machine functionality. · Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis and ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles. · Perform material selection and standard part identification (e.g., bearings, actuators, sensors). · Coordinate with vendors for part fabrication and outsourced components. · Support machine assembly, debugging, and commissioning at the shop floor and client site when needed. · Provide technical support for installation, troubleshooting, and after-sales service. --- Qualifications and Skills: Education: · Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (Diploma with experience may be considered). Technical Skills: · Proficient in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo. · Understanding of manufacturing processes: machining, welding, sheet metal, and fabrication. · Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic automation components. · Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and tolerance analysis. · Hands-on experience with SPM or automation projects is preferred. Soft Skills: · Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. · Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. · Effective communication and teamwork. · Willingness to travel for on-site machine commissioning. --- Preferred Experience: · Prior experience in design and development of assembly machines, test rigs, robotic fixtures, or industrial automation systems. · Exposure to PLC integration, sensor selection, or motion systems is a plus.
